newly retired President of Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, an
institution that is one of the 15 four-year public universities in Virginia. She
served in that capacity for 14 years and moved the institution to a position of
academic excellence in program offerings, including the recent addition of a
state-of-the-art nursing program with high levels of technological support.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Her contributions to the professional
community are extensive, having served on several Governor’s commissions, as
chair and a member of the Board of the American Association of State Colleges
and Universities, on the Leadership Commission and the chair of the Fellows
Program of the American Council of Education, as a Commissioner of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools, and as Chair of the Presidents’ Council and
member of the Executive Committee of the National Collegiate Athletic
Association.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Dr. Cormier is known
to be an engaging speaker and we are pleased to have her joining us this
