From LashleyB at easternct.edu Fri Sep 11 15:28:06 2015 From: LashleyB at easternct.edu (Lashley, Brian (Institutional Research)) Date: Fri, 11 Sep 2015 20:28:06 +0000 Subject: [COPLAC-IR] URGENT message about the NSSE consortium Message-ID: <8C0F5AA99075FD41BDAB2A075325D06A604600BA@ECSUMB2.easternct.edu> Hi everyone, I apologize for not realizing this before, but it really is questionable whether we need to form a consortium this year. Here's why: 1) you can manually create any comparison group you want, including COPLAC (this is done in the spring) 2) we are no longer doing the added consortium questions The ONE thing we'll miss out on if we don't have the consortium is the total report, where we get statistics on ALL COPLAC participants (including your own institution). Is that worth the consortium fee though? What this comes down to is we can all save a few bucks by not having the consortium, which is becoming less needed. The option to enroll in the consortium begins this monday and closes on Oct 23. So this is a good time to figure out what we want to do. Your thoughts? Brian R. Message-ID: <8C0F5AA99075FD41BDAB2A075325D06A604610EF@ECSUMB2.easternct.edu> Hi folks, No one expressed any concerns about nixing the COPLAC NSSE consortium for this year, so I had NSSE delete it. So now you're saving money and still getting what you need from your NSSE data. I'm going to work with my NSSE contact during the winter/spring to ensure we still have COPLAC as a comparison group, even without the consortium. Any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Brian R. Eastern has just had its first fall enrollment with test-optional students, and I'm struggling to get a consensus on how to report SAT data under this new scenario. thanks, Brian R. It would be great to talk more about it with you and with anyone else from schools with similar practices. This study matches IPEDS data with voting data from across the country to tell us whether our students registered, whether they voted, and if so whether that was in person or absentee. You can find more information about this study here. A majority of COPLAC campuses have already signed up, so thanks to those who have! There are 11 COPLAC campuses not yet participating, and I don't know whether this is a considered decision not to participate or you intended to sign up and never did or it never made it to your radar screen in the first place. * Southern Utah University * University of Mary Washington * University of Virginia's College at Wise * Shepherd University * Ramapo College * Truman State University * University of North Carolina at Asheville * University of Montevallo * Mansfield University of Pennsylvania * Sonoma State University * University of South Carolina at Aiken It would be really great to have all COPLAC campuses participate so that we can get good comparative data. It's free, and it's an unobtrusive study - that is, it gives us valuable information about our students without subjecting them to yet another survey because it uses existing data. If your institution has not yet signed up please consider joining by October 9. Here's the link to the form. I signed on behalf of my institution, and I believe IR directors have ordinarily been the signatories on these participation agreements.
