From spellman at coplac.org Tue Mar 14 10:49:17 2017 From: spellman at coplac.org (William Spellman) Date: Tue, 14 Mar 2017 11:49:17 -0400 Subject: [COPLAC-IR] COPLAC Annual Meeting Invitation Message-ID: Dear COPLAC Institutional Research Colleagues, The 2017 COPLAC Annual Meeting will be 22-24 June, hosted by Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. This year’s theme is Making the Case for Liberal Learning in and beyond the Classroom. At the Board’s request, the meeting will feature hands-on, in-depth workshops providing opportunities for participants to really dig into issues facing public liberal arts colleges and universities. One of the two featured working groups at Mansfield will be: Institutional Research and Predictive Analytics. Potential working group topics include: - Refining the COPLAC Annual Data Profile - Developing evidence-based common metrics that will help member institutions to better advocate for their individual campuses - Identifying and refining comparative data that help to identify our common strength and highlight these in COPLAC’s branding work - Working with Marketing and Advocacy professionals at our member institutions We invite you to join with your colleagues from other COPLAC campuses to discuss challenges, opportunities, tactics, and best practices. Working groups will report out in a plenary session at the end of the gathering. Registration for the Annual Meeting will open later this spring; you will receive an email letting you know when the conference website is live – please save the date and share this information freely on your campus to any who might be interested in attending. In the meantime, please take a moment to check out our new and improved website ! URL is the same, but the site has been revamped, streamlined, and updated to provide current info, phone and tablet responsiveness, and improved resources such as a new format for our undergraduate research journal, Metamorphosis . Please let us know if you have any questions. Hope to see you in June! Below is the CDS question F1 for information. Can you clarify if we should report based on CDS or the criteria listed in the spreadsheet? Percent who are from out of state (exclude international/nonresident aliens from the numerator and denominator) Percent of men who join fraternities Percent of women who join sororities Percent who live in college-owned, -operated, or -affiliated housing Percent who live off campus or commute Percent of students age 25 and older Average age of full-time students Average age of all students (full- and part-time) 2. Question 63 asks for FTE *undergraduate* students for student faculty ratio calculation sheet. This is the first year that New College has its first master graduate program. It is a small program. The direction in CDS for reporting student to faculty ratio asks institutions to exclude *“faculty and students in stand-alone graduate or professional programs such as medicine, law, veterinary, dentistry, social work, business, or public health in which faculty teach virtually only graduate level students.”* Our master graduate program is not a stand-alone graduate or profession al program specified in the CDS direction. Faculty in the graduate program also teach undergraduate students and some graduate students take high level undergraduate courses, so we include the graduate students and faculty from the graduate program in the faculty student ratio reporting. We wonder if we misinterpret the CDS direction, as Question 63 asks us to report the student counts from student-faculty ratio calculation sheet, but the element name is FTE *undergraduate* students . Our number would include graduate students. Can you help clarify this data element? Thank you for your help! Have a great weekend!
