We cannot reward students for passing the test.....
We must reward all students or none!  :)

I have done an ice cream party with condiments for students who had perfect attendance on their testing days.  Worked out great, was easy to monitor by the missed test forms that we have to have anyway.

I would just be sure to reward all of the 6th - 8th graders!  :)

 Anna,

Last year I had a cook out for our middle school and high school students! I had a volunteer come and grill all the hot dogs, I asked all the teachers to bring a wrapped dessert, and I had the principals and teachers help serve all the students! Both the high school and middle school students got an extended lunch and they loved it!

I would like to have the inflatable obstacle bounce house things and do another cookout again this year. I would like to get more of our community involved in helping this year. I want our students to know we appreciate their hard work and in return they get to do something fun! I have also thought about having a volleyball or dodge ball tournament!

I hope this gives you some ideas! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In the past we have taken our students to the local park and had ice cream sundaes.

Our school used to have a fun day where we had those blow-up obstacle courses, sumo wrestling, etc. and a big lunch for those who passed. We stopped doing it because it really messed with students who didn’t do well. We have also had a school dance for rewards or taken them to a park, fun day, etc.

Hey, Anna Marie!  It's been forever! I still laugh at many of the memories involving you and Wellston!  We have a few different things that we do across the district.  At the high school, spring EOIs earn exemptions from the winter semester exams mandated by policy at a 1-to-1 ratio but not subject related. (They can pass the Algebra 1 EOI and exempt their PE semester exam if so desired.) I take exempters to the auditorium during the 2 days of semester exams and we watch movies and play games.  It's a great time!  I usually only have about 120-150 kids per 2-hour time-slot for the exams, so the numbers aren't bad and a full movie typically fits. (I pre-approve all movie options.)   I think this is the test that our junior high throws a Pizza party at the end of the year for those that pass it. I do not know the logistics of it so the when and where and what do you do with the
others is not something I can help with.  What about a celebration dance party?  One time we partnered with a local fast food business and gave drink cards to those that passed.  You might also try community partnering to accumulate prizes for drawings and let the kids put in a ticket per test passed in the bucket with multiple chances to win multiple prizes. Just a couple of incentives... BEST WISHES!  Krista keeps me updated on your family!

Could you ask fellow counselors if they have a positive solution that works to reduce  tardies in between classes in their middle school?

 Thank you,
