My post is not an April fool's joke either. I need your help please. I am planning next year's retreats and because of the budget crisis I have heard that many schools are going to a 4 day week. What day do I have my retreats? (This is all depending on funding for us also next year) This is what I have tentatively, not set so don't mark anything down on your calendars. I just want your input. Yes I am planning on some day retreats throughout the state, you would have to pay for own food. I planned on around the same dates and places as I have had in the past. Do I have them Sunday/Monday or Wednesday/Thursday? Finding dates for you all to not be gone constantly is the pits! (I know you know that already!) We also have our fall workshop schedule available on our website, they are the month of September. The registration will not be up until the week of April 18. http://okhighered.org/student-prep/ Here are tentative dates, nothing is set. Please give me feedback through replying to this email or my email, lnelson at osrhe.edu with a check mark beside good dates or type the dates, whatever would work best. If you know you are going to a 4 day week next year, tell me what day you are taking off. September 18, Sunday, and 19, Monday, or September 25, Sunday, and 26, Monday at Lake Murray Lodge, Ardmore October 20, Thursday, Day retreat at Guymon October 23, Sunday, and 24, Monday, or October 26, Wednesday, and 27, Thursday, at Fin and Feather Resort October 26, Wednesday, and 27, Thursday, at Tantaka November 6, Sunday, & Monday, 7 at Long Lake Resort, Poteau November 9, Wednesday, & 10, Thursday, at Roman Nose, Watonga November 16, Wednesday, Day retreat somewhere around Tulsa December 1, Thursday, Day retreat somewhere around Enid February 26, Sunday, & 27, Monday, or February 27, Monday, and 28, Tuesday at Tantaka March 1, Wednesday, Day retreat somewhere around NW OK March 5, Sunday, & 6, Monday, at Roman Nose or Quartz June 5, Monday, & 6, Tuesday, at Sequoyah State Park, Hulbert Thank you so much for your help!! I hope that you have a wonderful Friday. Happy April 1st! Summer Institute Info Message-ID: Good afternoon, Thank you so much for your responses regarding next year's counselor retreats. I appreciate you all taking time out of your busy schedule to reply. I will try my best to schedule the retreats close to those dates and have some Wednesday/Thursday retreats. I wanted to let you know that I have scheduled C/Sara Foundation from Ardmore to come and present a ? day of crisis response training, http://csarafoundation.com/training/training-crisis/ and a ? day of Safe Talk at our summer institute, http://csarafoundation.com/training/training-suicide-intervention/training-safetalk/ You all have to deal with a lot of "stuff" at your school and I just felt this was a need for you. We will spend 1 full day (Wednesday, July 13) with this so more than likely we will not be having round table discussions, but that is not to say there won't be sharing time. Also, Ryan Owens, CCOSA Co-Executive Director and General Counsel Director of Legislative Services, will speak about school laws. CCOSA stands for Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration. I am trying to get SDE to join us Tuesday morning, July 12, also. That afternoon, Regent's staff will discuss scholarships, the new FAFSA, OK Promise, and Lead Oklahoma. Thursday we will end with our college admissions panel. It will be an exciting time and I am thrilled to see all who have registered for it. We will have fun! So I leave you with something to brighten your day! (I just love the animals in this android commercial with Roger Miller's song!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnVuqfXohxc Keep this song in your head while you are getting ready for testing! New items: ? The spring assessment window is now open. Please contact the Measured Progress Oklahoma Service Desk if you experience any issues. ? Please be sure you are using the most recent version of the Testing Administration Manuals. ? Correction: In the email blast yesterday it was communicated that adding students to a class in the Portal would cause the session access code to change. This is incorrect. The student passwords would change, and the session code would remain the same. There would still be a need to reprint the student ticket. ? English II and English III item numbering: In both of these assessments the writing prompt is assigned item number 1. The first true question will be item number 2. If a student does not start with the writing prompt the first item they will see is number 2. ? If you have questions about which documents belong in each section for return to Measured Progress please refer to the new detailed graphic on the Help and Support page. ? Annual DTC and ATC meeting ? May 23, 2016: SDE, and Measured Progress, along with eMetric will host the annual DTC and ATC meeting to recap what went well in the spring assessment and discuss opportunities for areas of improvement. Registration is required: http://iregister.measuredprogress.org/ and select Oklahoma from the drop down menu. Please note, overnight accommodations are not provided. Assessment tips: Online testing: ? Be sure to complete Workstation Readiness Testing to ensure a smooth testing experience. ? We recommend staggering students starting the test, staggering a group of students starting their test by 40-60 seconds will optimize the bandwidth available at your site. ? It is best practice to have students requiring a zoom accommodation use a desktop computer with a larger monitor for the best testing experience. Paper based testing: ? If you need paper testing booklets for grades 6-8 Science and Social Studies please order these using the additional materials ordering process. ? Return of materials: Please review page 32 of the Test Preparation Manual for instructions on the use of green and white return shipping labels. Questions? It has been suggested that OSDE may be waiting to see the scores of our students then making the scores higher. If true, this sets our students, teachers, schools up to fail... not succeed. I am frustrated. The kids are frustrated. Shouldn't the scores have been determined prior to the testing window? I printed that Test Session pg so teachers have it before they go in to test. Not only that, but my students said that they got raw scores as well as their level of achievement (Advanced, Proficient, etc.) on all but the English tests. Some students were already distressed by the test, but then to see their placement upset them even more. This goes on the transcript. It shows proficiency level, exempt, the test used for exemption and the score. I also use the same Alternate Test place for any other test they may have passed like the PLAN score that they may score Proficient or Advanced and which could be used in place of a failing score on the EOI. We list it as what the college calls it (ex. OPSU ENGL 1113) for the course name on the transcript and then we code it in our student information system as the same code for English IV, in our system it is E4. We do the same for all concurrent course work. State law says we must put it on transcripts and let it count for what it is. If a student chooses to take the US History concurrently, they may use it on the high school transcript as the US History requirement. Because most of our kids don't jump into concurrent until their senior year and US History is a junior class for us, their concurrent US History gets coded as a US History but ends up actually counting as an elective since the requirement was already filled. Where confusion comes up is when they rock their AP English test as a junior and qualify for credit in Comp 1 at the college. The student still has to get a full credit of English 4 on the transcript so they typically take at least 1 semester of English 4 on our campus and then can choose the other half to be from concurrent's Comp 2 class if so desired. They do not get to count a passed AP exam as an additional year of English credit.
