From counselors at lists.onenet.net Wed Aug 30 08:52:07 2017 From: counselors at lists.onenet.net (OSRHE EPAS PK-12 Counselor Discussion Board) Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2017 08:52:07 -0500 Subject: [Counselors] Sending for a friend. Message-ID: Good Afternoon-- We are having a G/T meeting this Thursday and my Superintendent suggested I contact some counselor's to find out what test others use to determine the top 3%. We use the NNAT 3 with 4th graders each year. This is just my 3rd year at Sentinel but I know we didn't have any qualifiers the last two years. I'd like to administer a test somewhere in middle school to catch those who may have just missed the mark in 4th grade. If you have time (and believe me--I know you don't) would you mind sharing with me the test you use to determine your top 3%? Our list keeps shrinking-for both categories. I don't know if that's a trend you see or not. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. I do appreciate it. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: In Edmond, we use the COGAT test in the spring for 2nd graders & in the fall for 4th & 6th graders (middle school starts in 6th grade). If you're starting from scratch, I might suggest that you do the COGAT, online, if you have the devices. You get the scores back in 24 hours, while paper & pencil take several weeks. Edmond is going, online, because it's easier for the grown-ups, the kids do better, and it's cheaper in the long run. To qualify in Edmond, they have to score in the 95th percentile (2 points SME) or above as a *composite* score. Have a good one!
