This is determined for graduation ceremony purposes after 7 semesters but they have to maintain the 4.0 or above GPA for all 8 semesters in order to receive the Valedictorian scholarship. Amy Broadbent Cashion High School Counselor 405-433-2575 abroadbent at cashionps.org At Shawnee High we do not have valedictorian. We use a three tiered diploma system similar to college graduation. At graduation students wear a different colored honor cord for each diploma. We believe this offers us the opportunity to honor more graduates and have seen students strive hard to reach each academic level. The criteria for each tier is below: *THREE-TIERED DIPLOMA/THREE LEVELS OF ACADEMIC HONORS CRITERIA* Shawnee High School recognizes academic accomplishments of its graduates with a tiered diploma system. The three-tiered diploma uses the following criteria for graduate recognition: *Diploma with Distinction* Criteria: 3.95 GPA Completing at least 8 courses in the Advanced Placement Track or the concurrent college equivalent if the AP course is offered at Shawnee High School. *Diploma with Honors* Criteria: 3.75 GPA Completing at least 4 courses in the Advanced Placement Track or the concurrent college course equivalent if the AP course is offered at Shawnee High School. *Diploma with Merit* Criteria: 3.4 GPA Cindy Bartley Counselor Shawnee High School 1001 North Kennedy Shawnee, OK 74804 (405)275-3631; fax (405)275-9501 cbartley at shawnee.k12.ok.us Our Valedictorians must be on our honors diploma (most rigorous) and have a 4.0 (or highest GPA if no one has a 4.0). Usually we have multiple Valedictorians. At Quinton High School, Valedictorian is a senior that must rank first scholastically during a period of 4 years of high school based on weighted GPA. If there is a tie, Co-Valedictorians will be named. Valedictorian must have attended Quinton High School the last four semesters (2 semesters for junior year and 2 semesters senior year). Valedictorian will be figured on the first seven semesters of high school credits. Same criteria for Salutatorian. We use our weighted GPA and take the top 1% for Val and the next 2% for Sal...we are exploring the possibility of changing that as well so interested in seeing.... URL: From counselors at lists.onenet.net Thu Mar 29 11:55:50 2018 From: counselors at lists.onenet.net (OSRHE EPAS PK-12 Counselor Discussion Board) Date: Thu, 29 Mar 2018 16:55:50 +0000 Subject: [Counselors] Important reminders about deadlines for the Junior ACT test and makeup ACT Message-ID: PLEASE READ: VERY important reminders for you regarding the junior ACT April 3 test date and the April 24 makeup test since it has been discussed on this discussion board. I have verified this with Greg Loebe at ACT: The materials/test books you have now are for the April 3rd test date ONLY. ACT puts brightly colored flyers in the box with the test books that indicate which test date they are to be used. If YOU TEST or DO NOT TEST on April 3rd, the DEADLINE to return all of the materials is APRIL 6th and please remember there is a specific process on returning them. If you do not test April 3, you have to ORDER YOUR MAKEUP TESTS BY APRIL 6 for the makeup April 24 test! You can access the Pearson site to order from any computer. Regarding FEDEX pick up: If you test or do not test, you have to get the used and unused materials into FedEx by APRIL 6th. A pickup has been prescheduled at every site for April 4th. (If nobody is at the school, FedEx will try back on the 5th and 6th to pick them up) The TC can bring the materials to a FedEx location for return shipping if they will not be in school for the 4th -6th. They need to get a receipt from FedEx if they choose to do so. Accommodations: The accommodations window goes for two weeks through 4/17. ACT has prescheduled a pickup for 4/18 for those materials. If a school is not able to test their accommodated students within that window, they will need to return the unused test books and then call the Accommodations department to get materials ordered. This part is different from standard time testing as schools do not have the ability to order accommodated materials themselves. The makeup accommodations window is from 4/24 - 5/1. Only one week, rather than two like the initial window. This is the schedule of events that are very important: http://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ScheduleofEventsACT-OK.pdf Look carefully at the bottom of page 2 and beyond.
