For example, if someone reports suicidal thoughts, then are we liable if they follow through, because we knew. But our responses would be limited because of the anonymous factor. I have a 9th grader who plans to make a career in the Army (he's got the next 20 years of his life planned out which is quite refreshing!). He asked recently if I knew of a student exchange program where he could spend a semester in a "public military school" somewhere in the United States. He has checked out private military schools but they are expensive. That's when he figured out there are a few public military schools throughout the United States. I asked one of our teachers who is part of a foreign exchange student organization but she didn't know if there were such a thing. Do you have any ideas/suggestions... which I can pass on to this young man? His plan is to attend college and go thru an ROTC program so he will enter the military as an officer. First thing I do is make a copy (learned the hard way after having to delete and restart each time) and rename document to student name Then, I right click and duplicate the tabs on the bottom and rename them. (Example: JONES CONCERNS, JONES INTERVENTIONS, etc - one for each teacher to complete) I email each teacher (or print out for some of them who struggle with technology - then I plug in what they marked), they complete form. I gather any testing data for first page and check attendance. The "Team" has access to this file and can review data before the actual team meeting. It's prints nicely also, just tell it to "fit to page" It has been working so far but this is the first year! My teachers are learning to go through this process instead of walking into the Sped Director and saying, "So and so needs to be tested." If you can use it please feel free to make any changes! *Cassie Jones* *Elem/MS Counselor* *Preston School* On Fri, Jan 25, 2019 at 4:06 PM OSRHEStudent Prep PK-12 Counselor Discussion Board wrote: > We are trying to put together a referral packet for our teachers to > complete. To address the need for increased access to menstrual hygiene materials for Native American girls and women, she founded the The Kwek Society. In particular, the organization works to combat the issue of Native American students missing school because of a lack of access to menstrual supplies. Here is an article written by our tribal newspaper that goes into more detail. EdWeek had an article about this issue today as well: http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/rulesforengagement/2019/01/give_students_free_tampons_pads_advocates_say_heres_why_some_schools_already_do.html?cmp=eml-enl-eu-news2&M=58734142&U=1717944&UUID=95d75f734de3a596436a0f3baedee707. The Kwek Society are always looking for partner schools with majority Native American populations or strong Indian education programs to receive supply donations. In addition, drives for pads, bras and girls’ underwear (tampons aren't in that much demand) are so welcome. Drives educate and draw attention to the need. A drive that takes place in relative proximity to a school in need is ideal so that the donations can be driven to the school -- no mailing costs and community building takes place. The problem for the very rural schools is that they don't have relatively proximate well-off folks to run drives for them. So having, say, an urban drive organized and targeted to a school in another area, would be fantastic. In the grand scheme of things, mailing costs of product are relatively minor, compared to buying the products, and TKS would reimburse the organizer for those costs (unless she insisted on donating the cost).
