Also, we are not using Edgenuity. We use google classrooms with all our students. We are a 3A school. However, this could be adjusted to those using an online format. Students must check in twice per week with the teacher (various ways to do that:, usually email is easiest) and weekly assignments must be completed by Sunday @ 11:59 p.m. Teachers are to put in 0s for incomplete assignments. If 0 assignments are completed in a 15 day period, then the student is considered truant & issued a citation. Also, grade of 60% must be maintained. If a student is on ineligible list for 3 weeks, then the 4th week, they will be considered truant & citation issued. (Parent/student contact will be made prior to issuing a citation.) (Also, our policy is students can not be given an F as a final grade, unless they have been placed on the ineligible list for 1-2 weeks prior to the end of semester. This requires teachers to put in the 0s for incomplete assignments.) For those contemplating if an F or Incomplete should be transcripted. At the HS level, my recommendation is to transcript an F. Let them move on to Sem 2 courses. Then they can complete Credit recovery when it is offered. We are offering Seniors the first opportunity at credit recovery. Some students may have to complete credit recovery next year. Post Road Midwest City, OK 73130 405-739-1726 ext. 3004 * At Mount St. Mary, we add a bonus of .018 to every semester of a weighted course (Pre-AP; Honors; AP or dual credit college course). We arrived at it by taking the number of required credits (28) for graduation times 2 (56 sem. courses) and divided the 1 extra point value given by 56. 28 Credits X 2 = 56 semesters courses 1 extra value / 56 = .018 We did this because we saw students with the same number of weighted classes graduating with just 28 credits having a higher weighted GPA than students who graduated with the same number of weighted classes but took more than 28 credits. This was because the extra point value given to a weighted course was being divided by a greater number of total credits which penalized the student taking more classes. Simply put, you have the unweighted gpa plus (the total number of weighted semester classes times .018) Here is an example of the difference in how the weighted gpa is calculated. Hope it makes sense. The current pass rate for high school equivalency tests is very low. The test was modified and became significantly more rigorous 4 years ago. The test is exponentially more difficult than any tests given at the high school level. I have very very few GED students who have the time to invest in the study that it would take to pass the test. I offer class only one night per week. That's not even close to the amount of time that a student needs to invest in studying for a high school equivalency test. This requires students to do much of the preparation independently. If a student has ANY type of learning disability, there are very few accommodations for the test and they are VERY difficult to get approved. Hate to say this, but if a student has a learning disability, it's impossible to pass all sections of the test. This is just the reality of adult education right now. Not sure this would be a persuasion for a student contemplating dropping out, but I have convinced several students to withdraw from my adult education class in order to re-enroll in high school in order to graduate. Unfortunately, this has only been helpful to those few who are still age eligible to do so. I would like to say that those few who went back into high school all graduated. They went to an alternative school program in order to recover credits.
