  * We are doing a career panel this Thursday for our 6-9th graders. I asked parents who were in the health care professions to come be on the panel. We will do another one in the spring that focuses on other career fields. Parents can be great resources!

  * He is not free, but Emeka Nnaka from the Tulsa area is amazing! I've had him speak to our 4-6 graders and then he spoke to our district for a PD at the beginning of the school year. When he spoke to our 4-6 graders you could have heard a pin drop the entire time he was speaking. Such a great story he has to share.

  * I have been having speakers from our small community come especially ones that have businesses like cattle raising. The students recommend their parents and grandparents. I ask them to talk about how they got to their specific career. It has worked well for us. We have had firefighters, police, nurses, landscapers, and even a tattoo artist. I let them know they cannot recruit or ask for customers. It works very well! I send a gift card for $10.00 with their thank you card. I have a speaker once a week or sometimes 2 times a week. JSB :)

  * We had Kevin Atlas/#BelieveinYouChallenge last week. He was pretty great at keeping students attention, talked about not only setting but owning your goals, and habits that help you reach them. Also made some great points about the power of kindness.

  * We partnered with our local Technology Center and asked that they line up regular career speakers for our students in grades 9-12. The Technology Center’s digital design class even made a flyer for us to share and provided donuts and water for the attendees (we did it during the 30 minute block before school because most students are there at that time anyway! 😊
The speakers shared messages ranging from traveling down the “work-based learning” path to the importance of mentorship. It was amazing! 😊 I hope that helps!

  * I partnered with the local Technical College and have had someone come out each month. The speakers are chosen based on students career interest survey. So far we’ve had a wielding instructor, criminal justice instructor and students, and nursing. It has been a big hit with our middle schoolers.

  * How about your local Technical Center? We utilize ours all the time and they are very inactive with our students.

QUESTION:
I was wondering if someone had any recommendations for guest speakers for grades 7-10? I need them to be free. I would like someone to discuss goals, possibly careers. I need someone that would get their attention!
Thank you
