Is anyone familiar with the rules about taking a foreign language course in high school so that a student can play college sports?

  * They do not require a foreign language credit unless they changed that in the last couple of years. They can always substitute with other cores. I have had students who took two years of technology which don't count, but
they picked up an extra science or math or any other core area....yes, it is easier to just tell them to take two years of foreign language instead of the technology but it is not correct to say that they have to have
foreign language.

  * NCAA requires 16 approved courses, and foreign is included- it is possible to meet the 16 without foreign language. You just have to work through the NCAA worksheet with your approved courses. It could be that a school does not offer enough of the other courses and must include foreign language.
