This free online tool was developed to help students and adults easily create or hone their monthly budget, which is the cornerstone of financial success. The tool contains 10 main spending categories, with numerous sub categories under each. Sub categories can easily be renamed, deleted or added, allowing complete customization for the user. As the user enters projected expenses, the tool subtracts the expense total from the monthly income total, which allows the user to quickly see if edits need to be made to the spending plan. When the budget is finalized, users can export their personalized budget to an Excel file and save it to their computer for future reference. If you have questions about how you can integrate this tool into the work you currently do, please contact Melissa Neal at mneal at ocap.org or 405.234.4253. Don't forget to check out our lineup of lesson plans and our self-paced learning modules for more resources developed to help you teach those you serve about managing their personal finances. For more information about JYM Week (April 20 - 26) and a list of events, visit the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition's website. In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: [Ready Set Repay Blast] April 25, 2013 Now Available: Federal Direct Loan Counseling Toolkit! As you know, entrance and exit counseling are often your school's first and last opportunity to collect and share important information about federal student loans and repayment with student loan borrowers. For the most effective impact on your borrowers, we recommend in-person counseling. Whether counseling is one-on-one or in a group setting, in-person counseling gives borrowers the opportunity to ask specific questions and you the opportunity to collect current demographic information - all of which can reduce both your borrowers' chances for default and your school's cohort rates. If your school is interested in conducting in-person entrance and exit counseling, OCAP can help! Our Ready Set Repay team has developed a Federal Direct Loan Counseling Toolkit to help Oklahoma's financial aid administrators meet regulatory requirements for entrance and exit counseling. This toolkit includes: * Entrance and Exit Counseling PowerPoint presentations that meet regulatory guidelines * Quizzes covering material from each presentation to confirm student comprehension * Entrance and Exit Counseling Rights and Responsibilities checklists * A Demographics Information form * A budgeting worksheet * An electronic version of the Borrow Smart from the Start brochure (which can also be included in electronic award letters) To further assist you with entrance and exit counseling, an OCAP Training Specialist may be able to deliver your counseling presentations. To order your copy of the Federal Direct Loan Counseling Toolkit or to discuss the possibility of scheduling a counseling presenter, contact Scott DeBoard, OCAP Training Specialist, at sdeboard at ocap.org.
