The 2011 Three-Year Cohort Default Rates Decline in all Oklahoma School Sectors

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) released the 2011 Three-Year Cohort Default rates on September 22, 2014 and, as you may already be aware, the national default rate declined by 1 percent.

That's great news, but what about Oklahoma's state rate, and how does your campus rate compare to schools within your sector? Wayne Sparks, the Oklahoma College Assistance Program's Default Prevention Manager, put his team to work compiling Oklahoma's data and has the answers to these questions.

Oklahoma's 2011 state rate declined by 2.7 percentage points to 15.7 percent. Rates declined in all school sectors, and the 2011 three-year rate is the lowest it's been since ED changed the default rate calculation from two years to three years, starting with the 2009 cohort default rate. The chart below illustrates the Oklahoma school sector cohort rates for the last three cohort years.
