Dec. 1 Message-ID: <438F1A6B.8000306@eosc.edu> Happy December everybody, Can you believe it's actually December already? Time to be getting those cards and packages in the mail! Rudolph was on TV last night, and I think back to when I was a kid and how it always seemed such a long time from the end of November to Christmas. I used to think they were starting holiday shows way too early if they didn't wait at least for it to be December. Now I realize they were on "grown-up time", which goes a lot faster than "kid-time". Congratulations to our Dept. of Corrections graduates today. We'll miss them. Our menu for today includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and gravy Seasoned green beans Corn Baby carrots Baked potato bar Pasta bar Rolls Our fast food is: Chili and cheese coneys Corn chips (Sounds like good makings for a Frito pie to me) And for dessert you have a choice of either a Brownie or Peach Cobbler. No excuse for being bored what with everything that's going on, plus trying to get ready for Christmas. Today and tomorrow there will be the annual Christmas Bazaar in the Wilburton Sr. Citizen's Center at 309 West Ada, right next to the Public Library, then Saturday the Catholic Church is having their annual Flea Market at 102 Centerpoint Road, and of course Sunday, Candlelighting will be held here in the Mitchell Auditorium at 5:00 and 8:00 pm. My sympathy to Andy Mace in the loss of his mother. What a wonderful life she must have lived though! Also, FYI, the Coffee Shop will be closed today. Susie is down here helping us out as everyone scurries around preparing for Christmas parties. Our menu for today includes: Meat loaf Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Black-eyed peas Winter mix vegetables Baked potato bar Rolls Our fast food is: Fajita nachos Mexican fiesta rice Refried beans And for dessert we have luscious Banana Pudding. Someone should've told my mother duck that before she hatched babies out yesterday. And don't forget to either bring your pets inside during this dangerously cold weather, (they'll keep your feet warm), or provide them with plenty of warm bedding and check their water frequently to make sure it is not frozen solid so they can't drink it. I know I wouldn't want to be left outside in weather like this, would you? Don't forget to get your beautiful Christmas pointsettias here in the Student Union today between 1:30 and 3:00 to help support our Horticulture Students. I want to see if any of them can help me identify a mystery vine that I've been trying to figure out the identity of for several years now. When I came in this morning, the thermometer on my computer screen said 4 degrees. A little later I looked at it and it said 3 degrees. I almost decided to quit looking at it altogether, as it was headed in the wrong direction for my taste. I have looked at it again lately and I feel much better. We're at a balmy 22 degrees now so we might accidentally break a sweat today. Be sure and try to attend the reception at the White House today between 11:30 and 1:30. The Cafeteria Crew have been working extra hard preparing some really wonderful treats for it. This will be my first time to get to see inside the White House. I love the way it looks on the outside and I'm looking forward to seeing the inside. We had kids in here I hadn't seen all semester at breakfast this morning. Must be trying to nourish their brains before test taking time. I wish them luck, but mostly I just hope that they actually do know what they're supposed to have learned. I hope you all had a great weekend. It turned out to be pretty nice weather after being so cold for the Christmas parade Friday evening. It wasn't bad driving the truck in it for P.A.W.S., but the kids in the back had to be thawed out for a while afterwards. We enjoyed it though. It's pretty special that we get to have it broadcast on KESC, my personal favorite radio station anyway. I've got to get my speakers fixed in here! Right here at Christmas time, they've gone on the fritz on me and I know I'm missing some wonderful music. Getting this fixed is definitely on the To Do ASAP list. I enjoyed attending the come and go reception at the White House last Friday. Drexel Browne, our "dessert lady" went up with me and reminisced about coming up there when Dr. Baker and his family lived there, having cheerleading practice with his daughter, Betty. The house is one of those old ones with character that I really enjoy exploring, just imagining what I could do with all those neat nooks and crannies and special little rooms that would be ideal for plants or a reading area. And I got to see "It's a Wonderful Life" on TV the other night. I think that's my all time favorite Christmas movie, even if it is black and white. Thank goodness for de-icer! You just never know what the weather is going to spring on you. I was going over to the Business Office yesterday, heard a noise and looked up, and saw a small flock of really confused geese flying NORTH! Every time I see or hear geese flying over, it makes me think of the movie "Fly Away Home", an excellent, really upbeat movie. I hope this flock turns around or they'll freeze their tailfeathers off! Don't forget about the employee Christmas dinner this evening. It's my first one and I'm looking forward to it. Most of the Cafeteria employees, unfortunately, will not be able to attend, as they will be the ones, fixing it and cleaning up after it, but since I'm not a cook, I'll be able to be there.
