Feb. 2 Message-ID: <43E2292A.9020204@eosc.edu> Happy Ground Hog's Day everybody, Well, once again, you guys did really well with the rain dance, prayers, etc. It's really coming down outside now! What I want to know though, is how did you get it to start up the minute I stuck my head out this morning? Now that's some good timing! It was raining so hard as I came to work, I could hardly see to drive. I felt like a Texan on ice. It hadn't really rained hard in so long, it seemed completely foreign to me. You almost forget that you have to slow down and watch for those standing puddles that will send you spinning into places you never wanted to be. And as I said, it is Ground Hog's Day, or Prairie Dog, or maybe in this part of the state Armadillo Day, as that's one of the few critters we have that live underground to be able to stick their heads out. I'm afraid if one of them sticks their head out now, they'll drown. They darn sure won't see a shadow! I guess that means that winter's been cancelled for this year, since we haven't had any to speak of so far. Our menu for this wonderful rainy day includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and gravy Green beans Corn Carrots Baked potato bar Our fast food is: Chili cheese coneys Fries And for dessert some Blueberry Snack Cake sounds like a very tasty and healthy choice. In case you haven't been keeping up with such things, blueberries are supposed to be really good for you, full of cancer-fighting antioxidants, not to mention good flavor. Get out your umbrella and come on over, Rhoda ;-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you did not have a chance to stop by the table and pick some of these up, most can be requested free from the American Heart Association's web site. Take a minute to look at it and the others we have listed below for some very vital information on heart disease, high blood pressure, weight management, and other health issues. FYI: Some industrious student with a really heavy class load and a really heavy backpack evidently left their heavy backpack in the Cafeteria this weekend sometime. I couldn't find a name anywhere when I looked through quickly, but it looked like there was a schedule starting with Comp. on Mon. from 8:00 to 10:00. They also have Calculus, and several other really hard classes, so if you have anyone in any of these classes that says they lost their backpack, they're not just feeding you a line because they didn't do their homework. One thing's for sure, they won't need to lift weights. Carrying that backpack around will be exercise a plenty! Some of the upcoming nighttime temperatures predictions I've been seeing on the weather reports are not even old enough to drive. If you missed the Eastern Idol competition last night you missed a good show. Even the judges were entertaining. I have to admit it was the first time I'd seen Ruth Brelsford's claws come out, but she mellowed back out before it was over. Dougo immediately let it be known that all the female acts would be going on to the next round. That boy's not dumb, huh? And I think Ashley, the basketball player, was going to sign up for Aggie Club. You still have a chance to see this entertaining event on Thursday evening, when it all comes down to the finals. I hope you're having a really sweet day today and that all the people who love you have let you know about it and you let them know how much you love them too. If you're looking for something interesting to do this evening, how about going to the Gallery (across from Adelita's) and listening to Choctaw storyteller Tim Tingle? He will be there at 7:00 hosting a Storytelling Circle, where he and whomever else would like to participate tell their stories. It ought to be interesting. I know we have a lot of people around here who are full of...stories and can really capture an audience's attention. For more information about this contact Ruth Brelsford here on campus via email or at extension 762. Our lovely menu for today includes: Chicken in a biscuit (NEW) Mashed potatoes and gravy Winter Blend Veggies Corn Green beans Pasta bar Our fast food for today is: Cheeseburgers French fries And for dessert today, Drexel knows how much we love chocolate, so she made Chocolate Cake and Brownies! I think I need one of those bumper stickers that says "Will Work for Chocolate." Bring your sweetheart and come on over, Rhoda ;-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Feb. 15 Message-ID: <43F34F94.6070102@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Boy, it was warm in the Cafeteria this morning. We had to open the windows and doors to keep from having a heat stroke, (in February, no less!) It should be cooled off pretty well by lunch though. If you didn't attend the Storytelling Circle last night at the Gallery, you missed some good stories. Not only did Tim Tingle tell some stories, but several other people got up to share stories of their own, including our own Ruth Brelsford and Phillip Mauney. Tim will be teaching a storytelling workshop on campus today at 4:00 pm and tomorrow he will be giving a public performance at 7:00 in the auditorium. Be sure and try to attend if there's any way possible. He is able to be here thanks to a grant obtained by Marcia Davis, the grade school music teacher, and we need to support things like this. I'd like to see us have more special events like this in the community, but we have to show our support for that to happen. It was also decided to organize a monthly storytelling group and Ruth Brelsford, bless her heart, was elected the first president. This group will meet on the first Monday of every month, with the first meeting falling on March 6. Anyone who has stories to tell, or just enjoys listening to a good story is invited to attend. Our menu for today includes: Smoked pork chops Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn on the cob Okra Sweet peas Pasta bar Rolls Our fast food is Pizza. And for dessert you can have Cheesecake if you beat me to it. Have a great day, Rhoda ;-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I heard the TV weatherman recommending that you fill up with gas, water your outdoor plants, make a good sheltered place for your outdoor pets, and relocate your hat and coat now, (and probably de-icer) because you won't want to be doing all this when it gets cold. Sounds like good advice. I hope I have time to take it. Be sure and try to come and listen to Tim Tingle, the Choctaw storyteller, in the auditorium this evening at 7:00. Sorry I didn't get a menu out Friday, but I took a day off to get ready for a Girl Scout overnighter with my daughter, and now that I'm back I can see decorations up everywhere in the Cafeteria for Mountaineer Monday and Mardi Gras. The Girl Scout thing was fun. A couple of our international students were even involved with it since the idea behind this event each year is to learn about different countries, so Hiroko and Yuri, a couple of our Japanese girls, were there helping to make sushi and even play the piano. (Yes, I actually ate a bite of sushi, something I never really thought I'd do. I guess I'm one of those people they're referring to when they say that here in Oklahoma most of us call bits of raw fish, bait. Surprisingly, it didn't taste "fishy" like I thought it would. It is wrapped in seaweed which is kind of rubbery, but hey, we got used to gummy worms, didn't we?) It looks like there might be a lot going on on campus today. Unfortunately, I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, so I will have to miss most of it. If I had known about this beforehand, I might have had to reschedule so I'd get to be here for my first Mountaineer Monday. Our menu for Mountain Mardi Gras Monday includes: Spaghetti Bread sticks Green beans Corn Our fast food is: Chili dogs French fries And for dessert we have a couple of special Mountaineer Mardi Gras Cakes. Come on over and celebrate with us, Rhoda ;-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Feb. 28 Message-ID: <440471CC.3010400@eosc.edu> Hi everyone, Hard to believe it's actually still February, but my thermometer says it's 62 degrees outside and will surely get warmer as the day goes on. We've got the big fan on that we use in the summer in the kitchen today with it being this warm. With all the warm weather we've been having this winter, I think we may have to get rid of most of our winter clothes and invest in some more shorts and summer shirts! Everything else spends most of it's time hanging in the closet! Be sure and try to get out and see the movie "Crash" tonight in the auditorium at 6:00. Levenia and co. are doing a wonderful job putting together activities, events and making available information that makes you think and we should try to take advantage of these opportunies. Our menu for today includes: Chicken alfredo lasagna Steamed red potatoes Corn Carrots Creamed peas Sauerkraut and weiners Baked potatoes Hot rolls Our fast food is: Corn dogs French fries And for dessert we have Earthquake Cake and Apple Cobbler. Come on over, Rhoda 8-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It was truly appreciated and inspiring. There is so, so much information that we would have liked to have shared with you but do to time restraints we could not. But I wanted all of you to know how much I appreciate each and everyone. This is the last of the historical information that I will be sending. Enjoy.
