March 1 (Coffee Shop Closed Today) Message-ID: <4405C87B.7050902@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Well, it's the 1st of March and it feels like later in the year than that! My thermometer shows 71 degrees. The flowers are starting to bloom out. I've been seeing daffodils for several days now, and yesterday I noticed the Bradford pears along the highway are about to burst into bloom. Then this morning I noticed a tiny white bloom on a little shrub a friend gave me last year that we had one like when I was little. Well, there's bad news for you all who might have planned to eat in the Coffee Shop today. Susie had to close up and go home to take care of a sick young one. You can let the students know that the Cafeteria will be open til 1:30 so they can still come in here and eat. Our menu for today includes: Pork loin Oven fried potatoes with onions and peppers Pinto beans Corn Turnip greens Fried squash Baked potatoes Pasta Rolls Cornbread Our fast food is PIZZA. And for dessert we have Banana Pudding and a Triple Decker Cookie Bar. Yum! Come on over, Rhoda 8-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... March 2 Message-ID: <44071679.4030109@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Boy, I can't get my days straightened out! All day yesterday I thought it was Tuesday, right up to when I started to log off and go home, then I took one last look at my little calendar feature on the computer and it straightened me out real quick, letting me know I had better not leave before I got everybody's time sheets turned in! That sort of slip up will get you deep fried around here! Today it still seems like it ought to be Wednesday, though. I'm hoping for nice weather this weekend, at least if it's going to rain I want it to hold off til Sat. evening or night, so we can have a PAWS adoption day Sat. morning. I have a pit bull puppy and 2 young blue heelers I desperately need to find homes for, not to mention all the other dogs that are at the PAWS pens. Our menu for today includes: Chicken and noodles Mashed potatoes and gravy Fiesta corn California blend vegetables Rolls Baked potatoes Our fast food is: Hamburgers French fries And for dessert come and fix your own Banana Split. The weather has been pretty nice, but it has been pretty windy at times. I just looked out the back door and the sun is shining like everything, making me wish to go take a walk at the park or somewhere. It looks absolutely beautiful out there. I sure hope it stays this nice this weekend. I've noticed that our beautiful Bradford pear trees are starting to bloom out front, and daffodils are coming up all over. I hope they don't have to cut the trees down when the new building goes up. That would be a real shame. I really enjoy this time of year when everything starts coming out of it's dormant state and blooming brightly all over the place. It just makes you feel good all over. Our menu for you today includes: Chicken fajitas Refried beans Spanish rice Nachos Cheese sauce Baked potato bar Our fast food is PIZZA. And for dessert Drexel has made Confetti (or Pizza) Brownies, (a brownie layered with mini marshmallows, and candy crumbles on top.) Have a great weekend and be sure and come by our PAWS adoption day in front of Roy's Sat. morning and take home a new best friend (if it doesn't rain.) Rhoda 8-) P. S. We had a PAWS adoption day in front of Roy's on Saturday and adopted out several puppies that badly needed homes. I got a little bit of a sunburn along with it, but not bad. We had a good time and did some good at the same time. The storytelling group which was originally to be held tonight at the Gallery downtown has been moved to tomorrow night due to a scheduling conflict with a class that the group's leader, Ruth Brelsford, (bless her heart), teaches on Monday evenings. If you like to tell stories, or just like to listen and enjoy some good companionship come on down tomorrow evening. It will be interesting, that's for sure. (Temporary amnesia has left me unsure whether the group starts at 6:00 or 7:00, so I'll have to check that out and get back with you tomorrow. :-[ ) Our menu for today includes: Barbecued pork Scalloped potatoes Baked beans Corn on the cob Fried okra Hot rolls Our fast food is: Chili cheese nachos And for dessert we have German Chocolate Cake or Apple Pie Squares. We lost a small piece of our wavy fiberglass patio roof, but I found it first thing this morning when I opened the front door. It was right in front of me on our walkway! I'm glad it didn't blow somewhere and take out a window or something. We got jolted awake at about 2:00 when hail started pelting our bedroom window. I got up to look outside and around to see what was going on and one of our dogs, Gypsy, who doesn't like storms at all was right on my heels! She must've had a bad experience in a storm before we adopted her and started keeping her inside. It's still dark when I come in to work so I don't know what all else it may have done, but I hope nothing too bad. I dread to see what it may have done to the beautiful flowers that were just getting started good. The red buds were really spectacular. It's gotten so cold we even turned the hot chocolate machine back on. I'm still exhausted from yesterday. After working all day I went to the 4H dress revue and Share-the-Fun show at the grade school auditorium and was there til almost 8:00 pm. That was a long day, but I enjoyed the acts, music and modeling that the kids did. Hopefully next year they'll have an even bigger show and more kids will get involved. 4H is a great organization that can always use good adult volunteers to help with things like this if anyone is interested. They are doing a lot of great things with our local kids and providing a good environment where the kids can participate in activities without worrying about their safety or what kind of negative influences they may encounter. They have a lot more going on than the traditional stock shows. My daughter doesn't do stock shows and she still finds plenty to do and get involved with in 4H. March 23 Message-ID: <4422B986.30301@eosc.edu> Hi everyone, On my way home yesterday I saw a long line of geese winging their way north over Hwy. 2 South. I wished I could've been standing outside and been able to hear them as they passed. Every time I see or hear geese flying over, it seems to be much more an indicator of the seasons than the calendar or the weather report on TV. This is the REAL world. I hope they made it somewhere safe before the sleet started yesterday evening. That didn't last too long, but I was totally surprised this morning when I got up and turned on the TV and heard them reporting snow for much of the area. I hadn't even looked outside yet, as it was still dark, so I turned on the outside light and opened the door to see snowflakes whirling around. By the time I went out to the car, it was covered in sticky white flakes, so I turned on the back and front wipers, and got out to scoot the wet snow off the side windows. By the time I got that done, I was white all over! Looking out right now, it looks like the snow has stopped and isn't sticking anywhere except on the tops of cars and things. I didn't figure it would stay around too long. Those geese told me they're expecting spring any day now, and I'm ready. I didn't get as much done as I wanted to, but on the other hand, I did rest quite a bit and that felt pretty good, so I can't complain about that. Usually your body will let you know if you need to just take it easy for a while and I guess mine did. Before I left Friday, I got to "move in" a little bit more over here. I called Sheryl at the Physical Plant to have someone come over and put up a shelf and some picture hangers for me if they had a minute and she sent over a couple of really nice fellows who told me their names were Ken and Dave. They were very patient with all my "Put a hanger here, no up, no over. Now one over here" and all my other notions. When they told me they were charging $100 a hanger I thought, "No wonder they're so nice," and then, "I'm in the wrong line of work!" (They were just kidding about the $100 a hole, weren't you guys?) Our menu for today includes: Forgotten chicken Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Sweet peas Winter blend vegetables Baked potato bar Our fast food is Hot dogs with chili and chips available. And for dessert we're having a scrumptious looking Chocolate Cake. Come and get it, Rhoda 8-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... March 28 Message-ID: <44295B3B.5090702@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Well, the weather is supposed to be nice today and the burn ban is lifted! Only for Latimer, Pittsburg and Leflore counties, though I think. Of course yesterday evening when I was watching the news, they didn't mention that part. All they said then was that the burn ban was reinstated. I had been planning on getting up and going out to burn some stuff after the news, and that ended that. I didn't hear them mention the part about us being excluded until 10:00, and it was too late to go out and start burning at that hour. Maybe this evening I can get some stuff cleared out. You can sure pile up a bunch of junk without realizing it when you can't get out and burn any of it for a long period of time. They say the best things in life are free, and there's a free concert by the USAO showband at 7:00 in the auditorium this evening. It sounds like they are a talented group of musicians that play a wide variety of music, and really ought to be worth coming to hear if you get a chance. Our menu for today includes: Smoked pork chops Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Green beans Italian blend vegetables Pasta bar Hot rolls Our fast food is Barbecue on a bun, with baked beans and chips. And for dessert we have Banana nut cake with Peanut butter and cream cheese frosting, and Apricot Cobbler. Mar. 29 Coffee Shop Closed Message-ID: <442AAE1B.9000308@eosc.edu> Hi folks, The Coffee Shop will be closed today due to illness. Susie has a sick little boy at home and she is staying there to take care of him. The Cafeteria will remain open until 2:15 so that students with scheduling conflicts that usually have to eat in the Coffee Shop after the Cafeteria has closed can eat. Please spread the word on this so no one has to go without eating. Be sure and wish Novella Ballew, the Food Services Manager, a very Happy Birthday today. She is having a working birthday over here so you can drop by and wish her a happy birthday in person. And like Dougo always says on the radio, she accepts any denomination of currency, also. Congratulations to our CLEET class that is graduating today. Best wishes from the Cafeteria staff. Those of you that didn't get to attend the USAO Showband performance last night missed an excellent musical presentation. Unfortunately, the fellow that does the Elvis part of the act was out with the flu, but the rest of the act that they put on was wonderful! Mr. Settlemire, that is the director of the band also mentioned that our own Dr. Bernard was the one who helped get the band started. From the quality of the performance they put on last night, he should be very proud to have been a part of bringing this into being. We have an excellent menu for you today including a new casserole recipe: West of the Pecos Casserole (really smells and tastes good) Scalloped potatoes Blackeyed peas Corn on the cob Fried okra Baked potato bar Pasta bar Our fast food is PIZZA. And for dessert try some Blackberry Cobbler, for a taste of summer a little early, or a piece of snack cake. I believe they are having a kick-off party for it downtown tomorrow between 12:00 and 1:00, and the 4H is having a spaghetti dinner on Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Wilburton high school cafeteria. There will be spaghetti, garlic bread, cheese and relish trays, and other yummy items to tempt you and to keep you from having to rush home from church and cook. This is always an excellent dinner and of course the proceeds go to a very worthy cause. Our menu for today includes: Pork chops Mashed potatoes and gravy Sweet peas Zucchini and tomotoes Corn Macaroni ad cheese Beef tips and rice Hot rolls Our fast food is Steak Fingers and French Fries. And for dessert we have Chocolate Cake with white frosting and sprinkles. Have a great day, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <442D520F.1090803@eosc.edu> Hi everybody, Well, we've made it through another week. If you're looking for something to do this weekend, Stoney Hardcastle is holding a writer's workshop tomorrow morning at the Public Library starting at 9:00. He is a well known local fellow who has published quite a number of books, and has taught writing classes here at Eastern in the past. If you're interested in writing, be sure to come and take advantage of his knowledge. Also, this weekend, there will be a Home and Garden Show at the Expo Center in McAlester that sounds like it should be very interesting. It starts on Sat. and goes from 9:00 to 6:00, then Sunday it runs from 12:00 to 4:00. Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend. Remember to Spring Forward! We'll be having an extra hour of daylight now so maybe we can get some of our outside chores done between work and dark. Our menu for today includes: Taco Topping (to go over chips or rice) Spanish rice Refried beans Corn Squash Nacho chips Cheese sauce White rice Baked potato bar Our fast food is PIZZA!!! And for dessert it's a chocolate fest, with Chocolate Brownies and No-Bake Cookies. It just doesn't get any better than that, unless you're one of those people who doesn't like chocolate, in which case that just leaves more chocolate for me! Have a great weekend! Rhoda ;-) P. S. And don't forget the 4H Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the High School Cafeteria. Cost is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for children age 12 and under.
