As the semester is beginning again, I would like to take the
opportunity to welcome the students. Also, I would like to thank the
faculty for the hard work they have done on our students' behalf, and
their willingness to work with our offices to ensure student success.

I would like also to clarify for those who are new on campus that we
are Student Support Services--not Student Services. I have been
getting a lot of mail this summer that was meant for Student Services,
(some of that was for the ADA office), and I have also had several
phone calls from students and parents who had confused our two offices.

Student Support Services offers academic support in the form of
tutoring, and yes, we do help with providing accommodations for
students with disabilities by monitoring tests for those who have
asked for extended time to take a test and reading those tests. We
provide other services as well. We do not take their disability
documentation or handle arranging the accommodations, though. That
must go through the Student Services Office. For help with any issue
concerning student affairs or ADA accommodations, call Dana Lewis at
ext. 818 or Dr. Sally Davis at ext. 756.

For help with tutoring, cultural enrichment, personal development, or
just a friendly face to talk to, come to Student Support Services on
the first floor of Johnston Hall. And if you find your way here and
discover that you have come to the wrong office, we will help you find
the right office.

To reach our staff call Cindy Waldrop, Administrative Assistant, ext.
825; June Haynes, Counselor/Advisor, ext. 822; Kathy Howe, Academic
Specialist, ext. 860; or me, Sue Lovett, Director, ext 823.

Thanks,
Sue Lovett
