July 2 Message-ID: <46891489.9070407@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Well, it's the changing of the guard here in the Cafeteria. Novella is now officially retired and probably at home still in disbelief that she actually made it, while Mildred Whisenhunt, Novella's former assistant and now the newly promoted Cafeteria Manager, is here trying to figure out what she has gotten herself into. I don't know whether to offer congratulations or condolences. Also on board with us today is Karen Shuman, our new Assistant Food Services Manager. She and Mildred have actually already worked together in years past so they already have a good working relationship together which is a plus. Now they will both just need some time to get used to their new duties. Please join me in welcoming Karen into our Eastern family. We know she will do a great job and be a credit to Eastern. Our sympathy goes out to Paul Enis and family who lost their daughter-in-law and unborn grandbaby this weekend in a tragic car accident that also put their son in the hospital in critical condition. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Our menu for today includes: Ham Baked beans Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Winter blend vegetables Hot rolls Our fast food is Chicken Strips and French Fries. And for dessert have a delicious piece of Chocolate Cake. Take care, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We need all our people happy, healthy, and in one piece. Don't forget about the free fireworks display put on by the Wilburton Fire Dept. tomorrow night at Robbers Cave State. It's always a wonderful show and you don't have to do all that lighting and running! Our menu for today includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and brown gravy Baby carrots Sweet peas Pasta Our fast food is Chicken Patty on a Bun with Potato Chips. And for dessert, something really special, Oreo Cheesecake. Have a great 4th of July holiday, Rhoda 8-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We had a good evening yesterday at a family get together at Buffalo Valley. The rain was light and almost continuous until close to dark when the kids were going to set off their fireworks, so that worked out pretty well. The weather didn't really put a damper on the party and probably for the first time, no one got sunburned on the 4th! We had plenty of fireworks, since my husband's brother and his family have a fireworks stand down there, and honestly there was so much smoke after they started shooting them off that it looked like a major London pea soup fog had moved in! We came in to our air conditioning being off, (it's getting better now), and the steamer not working right either, (even though it felt like a steamer in here). Can we have a do over for today? I'm about ready to start violating the dress code, health code policies or whatever it takes just to keep from having a heat stroke, and I can just imagine how the cooks feel out there in the real heat! Whew! I'm definitely ready for it to start raining again and cool things off! I've found more reasons to go check for things in the freezer today than in the past several months. It definitely feels better in there. I was eyeballing dimensions a while ago to see if my desk could possibly fit into the veggie cooler. This is the time of year when I could really be nocturnal, as that's the best time of the day to actually move around and do anything. It may not always be cool at night, but it's the coolest it's going to get! Our menu for today includes: Lasagna Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Sweet peas Garlic bread Our fast food is PIZZA! Hasn't this been the most unusual year for weather? It started with a massive ice storm, and now we're getting almost daily rain where we had been having drought conditions for the past several years. Someone said that all those years of prayers for rain had finally gotten through! Unfortunately, other parts of our country are suffering from the same drastic heat that we usually have at this time of year, and they're not used to it at all. It's like someone took the normal weather patterns that we experience and twisted them around to different areas. I think all parts of our country are in an uproar. It was wonderful to read the encouraging report on Ryan Enis's condition. Please continue to pray for him and his family. Our menu for today includes: Baked chicken Mashed potatoes and gravy Baked beans Fried okra Corn Pasta Hot rolls Our fast food is Hot Beef on a Bun with Cheese Sauce and Potato Chips. I got my last wisdom tooth pulled, so from now on if I do anything crazy, stupid or just plain silly we're going to blame it on the fact that I have no wisdom left, okay? (Hey, I've been looking for an excuse, and there's a certain logic to that one.) If you missed breakfast in here this morning, you missed a great meal. I was almost afraid to eat, because of my tooth situation, but couldn't resist when I saw that we had the waffle makers out, strawberry topping, ham and cheese in the eggs, and fresh cut up cantaloupe. Tomorrow night, if it doesn't rain too much and have to be postponed, we will have the Relay for Life at the Wilburton High School football field. Come out and participate and help raise money to find the cure for cancer. There's always lots of fun stuff going on to help keep the participants up and at 'em til Saturday morning. After that, more thought will be given to the planned fish tournament and fish fry and picnic. I finally got to see the Gear Up kids shoot off their bottle rockets yesterday. I was quite impressed. I actually saw Teddy Marmon out cutting the grass on campus the other day without having to have the mower pulled out by a tow truck or 4-wheeler or something. No word on when they'll be baling it, but they better do it soon just in case the rains come back. It is actually starting to look like we have a yard rather than a tall grass prairie bordered by jungle around our house. (We mostly worked on the front yard, and only with the weedeater. The lawnmower is still just barely visible in the middle of the tall grass we haven't gotten to in the back yard yet. We may have to invest in a machete to get to it, and soon before it disappears altogether!) I really had to keep good track of my can of mosquito repellent. They are really loving this abundant moisture, and are breeding in everything that will hold water for a few days. I hate to make more mud now that it's starting to dry out, but I've been going around dumping things that were holding water and mosquito larva just to keep from being eaten alive later. July the Last Message-ID: <46AF489B.90507@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Can you believe today is the last of July?! Where did the summer go? We're having our one week of semi-calm between our big camp and the beginning of the semester activities. The weather report says we're to expect a decreasing chance of rain along with increasing temperatures heading toward the weekend. I could do without the increasing temperatures, but even so, this year may go on the record books as one with the least 100+ degree days I can remember. Still, I think everything that was previously about to drown is now about to shrivel up from the heat. I did find a good reason to love our abundant tall grass in the back yard, though. The other morning my husband woke me up to come and look out the kitchen window, to see a mama deer and her two little spotted fawns hiding and browsing in our "tall grass prairie". They were just beautiful. I could've watched them all day. Our menu for today includes: Baked chicken Mashed potatoes and gravy Baked beans Fried okra Corn Pasta bar Hot rolls Our fast food is Nachos and Spicy Waffle Fries with Meat and Cheese Sauce on the side.
