Wish me luck with that. I'm not looking forward to those high digits we'll be getting very soon. I hated to hear the news about Ed Guy's heart attack. He used to take care of our building before becoming the Fleet Mechanic, and we all liked him and will be praying for him to have a quick and complete recovery. I hope we get good news about him very soon. Our menu for today includes: Dorito bake Scalloped potatoes Peas with pearl onions Okra Corn Pasta bar Garlic bread Our fast food is a Chicken Patty on a Bun, and French Fries. Then I looked closer and saw that it was just our Gear Up kids all wearing neon green t-shirts in for an early breakfast before heading off on their trip to the space museum. Thank goodness! I thought we'd been invaded by little green aliens. If only all invasion problems could be solved by giving the invading forces a good breakfast and sending them on their merry way! Good luck to Linda Morgan and Helen Scott, (the two head aliens), who are accompanying the group today. It looks like they're going to have their hands full. C. crew in for breakfast, then our Upward Bound group, and then a swarm of Gear Up kids, who ate breakfast, went upstairs and completed a little project, then came back for ice cream. I really wanted to see their rocket launch, but we got busy with budget paperwork and other things and I missed this one. Since there are several more Gear Up camps coming, I should surely be able to catch one of their launchings before it's over with. I hope we get good news about Ed Guy. We're certainly hoping for the best for him. Apparently they've worn out their welcome at the Physical Plant and steps are about to be taken to move them elsewhere. (The Physical Plant is about the last place I'd think cats would want to congregate, anyway, around a bunch of vehicles, and chemicals, etc. I could understand it if they'd taken up around the Cafeteria or the Meat Plant where they smelled food. That would be much more logical.) If nothing else, maybe some of you people with barns could use one or two to help keep down mice. I hate to see animals become displaced, taken away from surroundings they feel safe in and familiar with, but if they can be caught in live traps and given new homes where they could have a better environment to live in, it would be better for all involved. I have to admit I'm an animal lover and I have much admiration for people who try to feed and look after these homeless beasts. If you would be willing to adopt one or more of these poor homeless cats, please contact the Physical Plant and let them know before it's too late. (As for raccoons, I thought every raccoon in the county lived around my house so they could eat my cat food and chicken food!) I've got to get out and check our blackberries to see if we're going to have enough to go picking soon. The weekend was over way too soon for me to get everything done that I needed to, but during a lull, it dawned on me that I had been hearing cardinals outside the bedroom window frequently, so I stopped and looked out for a few minutes. It wasn't long before I noticed some activity in the cedar tree outside our bedroom and realized we have a nest of newly hatched baby cardinals just a few feet from our house! They are such beautiful birds! I got my bird book out and read up on them, and found that the male will be taking charge of this brood while the female will go on to make their next nest, since they have 2 or 3 broods a year! Sounds like they will be pretty busy. Our menu for today includes: Dorito bake Scalloped potatoes Sweet peas Corn Okra Pasta bar Our fast food is Sloppy Joes and French Fries. At the Staff Council meeting it was brought up that there will be a Plant Sale in front of the Pawn Shop Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 with the proceeds going to the Relay for Life. They will also have BBQ sandwiches, chips, etc. available for purchase. You can also give a donation to get your name in the drawing to win a Spa Basket full of goodies to pamper yourself with, or a helicopter ride for you more adventurous souls. (If I won the helicopter ride, I'd probably need the Spa Basket afterwards to calm myself down. I've never been off the ground before in a plane or a copter.) Don't forget the rodeo is this weekend and the parade is Saturday afternoon at 4:00 in downtown Wilburton. I know the rainy weather probably dampened some of your plans, but after several years of drought conditions, I just can't complain about it. I'm still worried about how we're going to keep cool when the hot weather hits, and every day of this rain and cooler temperatures just postpones that dreaded battle a little longer. I stopped by Saturday to see our Relay for Life Team girls at their plant sale, and wound up buying a really pretty fern and a chance on the Spa Basket and one on the Helicopter Ride they're offering for prizes. If I win the helicopter ride, maybe it will prove to my husband that I'm not afraid to fly. Just because I've never done it, doesn't mean I'm afraid to, it just means I've never needed to before. (There's no water involved, is there?) If you want to make a donation to get your name in the drawings for these prizes, just get in touch with one of our Relay Girls, like Trisha or London White or Anne Hester, and they'll be glad to take care of it for you. I've really enjoyed the cooler temperatures, but I realized yesterday that there is a down side to all the rain. My little rotten dogs were outside barking at something and I went running out to save them from it or it from them, whichever, and found myself splattered on the path, due to a wet and slick doormat that I had put out there to help us track in less mud. Nothing was injured except what little dignity I possessed, but maybe it's time to dry out a little, for safety's sake. At any rate, be careful until it does dry up some.
