Dec. 1 Message-ID: <49340D48.8010102@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Who'd've thought we'd start December with snow this morning? (I guess that was to convince us of the fact that it actually is December already.) I was all ready for work and then looked out the window to see white flakes falling and almost declared a snow day. (After being on my own schedule all last week, somehow the novelty of getting up really early again wasn't as exciting as you might think it should be. I guess the fact that it wasn't sticking at all was the only thing that talked me out of it.) I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break. Ours was pretty peaceful and uneventful until about yesterday. You know how when someone is learning to drive, they tease them and tell everyone to stay off the sidewalks? I figured out yesterday that's just for "city folks". Us country people need to stay out of the ditches. We investigated one yesterday when my daughter who just got her permit a week or so ago was driving to her friend 's house and didn't quite make the corner. We were not hurt, she's just embarrassed, and there's a piece or two of the front bumper of my station wagon that flaps in the breeze when we're driving now, but we lived to tell about it. A nice young couple stopped to check on us and then a boy my daughter knows from high school stopped and with them pushing, we were able to get the car out of the ditch. I really hope I thanked them for their help, but you know how it is when something happens like that. You can't really remember what you did or said afterwards. Boy, life with teenagers, (especially teenage drivers), sure is interesting! Our dish room guy, Charlie Langford, celebrated a birthday on Mon. Nov. 24 and Barbara Gilbertson and I celebrated ours right on Thanksgiving day this year. Don't forget about the blood drive in the East Cafeteria today and tomorrow. Come donate and save a life. (With my daughter driving now, we need all the donations we can get, just in case!) Our menu for today includes: Spaghetti and meatballs Baked potatoes Corn Green beans Garlic bread Hot ham and cheese on a bun French fries Chicken gumbo soup And for dessert have some Ice Cream with a variety of Toppings available. Have a great day (and remember to stay out of the ditches), Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Dec. 2 Message-ID: <4935615D.7060800@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Can you believe it's only 23 days until Christmas? Better get that shopping started! One good opportunity will be today at the Character's Club Christmas Celebration from 4:00 to 7:00 in Mitchell Auditorium, where there will be Christmas and other themed wreaths and gift items available for sale to benefit the Character's Club and help send our nominated students to the competition in San Antonio the last week in February. This is a very important fund raiser for them since due to a change in procedures they no longer get to keep their ticket money from the plays they work so hard on. I singlehandedly (and it looks it) created probably the ugliest wreath ever to donate to the cause, but it's a "dog treat wreath", and my dog didn't care what it looked like, she wanted it. Since I'm in PAWS, and I know there are dog lovers on campus, I figured I'd do a doggie wreath and someone could buy it for their best furry friend. My Ginger really wanted the rawhide chews on it, but she's a bear when she gets those. If any of the other dogs come near her or even look at her when she's got a rawhide chew, she goes into extreme guard dog mode, (and she's only a dachsund/chihuahua cross, but that doesn't stop her). Great free snacks and beverages will be provided at the event along with entertainment, and crafts for the kids to occupy themselves with while mom and dad shop and visit, so come and visit with Latimer County Arts Council members, Character's Club members, and theater instructor Melissa Heath-Lee, and buy something special to help this worthy cause. Another great shopping opportunity will be tomorrow in the East Cafeteria when the Staff Council sponsors a Jewelry Sale. You can come and get some great stocking stuffers for that special someone or something for yourself from Cecil & Co. Crafts. And don't forget we're still having the blood drive in the East Cafeteria today, so you can still be a hero and come donate blood to save a life. With the upcoming holiday season this is especially important. Our menu for today includes: BBQ on a bun Spanish rice Macaroni and cheese with little smokies Enchiladas Refried beans Potato chips Hot rolls And for dessert have some yummy Bread Pudding. Find your coat and gloves, your de-icer and/or windshield scraper, either bring your outdoor pets in or get them a snug, dry bed made up outside, make a cup of hot chocolate and throw another log on the fire and you'll be all ready for whatever kind of weather blows in. The Pre-Christmas Jewelry Sale is going on in the East Cafeteria today so come browse a while and I bet you'll find something you can't leave without. Don't forget to go to the Bookstore and do some shopping, too. You can find some nifty Eastern clothing items down there as well as books, candy and snacks, and a variety of other items, and every purchase you make gets your name in the drawing for several prizes to be given away on Dec. 12, so go in and buy something every chance you get! Dec. 4 Message-ID: <49380F50.9050108@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Brrrr!!! It's pretty nippy out there today, but I guess that's just a preview of what's to come later this winter. I'm sure hoping for no ice storms this year. They're dangerous, expensive, inconvenient and do so much damage to our wonderful trees! Without our trees around here we might as well live in the desert! I was just looking at the calendar and noticing how many events are coming up so fast in the next week or so! (I can't believe next week is finals week, either!) Tomorrow Eastern will have the honor of hosting the unveiling of a bust of Don McLanen, the founder of the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) in the Fieldhouse here on campus. I'd always heard of the FCA organization back when I was in school but had no idea that it had its roots so close to home here. There will be a reception following the unveiling in the East Cafeteria. Tomorrow evening and Saturday evening the Wilburton High School Speech Dept. will present "Grease" at 7:00 in the Wilburton High School Auditorium. I know this was performed on campus a few years ago, and if theirs gets anywhere near the kind of audience that ours did, you'd better get there early to get a seat. I didn't realize this when it was performed here and tried to get in at a few minutes til opening time and was turned away due to a standing room only audience! This Sunday will be our 82nd Annual Candlelighting here at Eastern, with 2 performances, one at 5:00 and the second at 8:00. There will also be a Fall Recital next Wed. Dec. 10 at 2:00 also in Mitchell Auditorium. Next Tues. will be our Potluck Christmas Feast here on campus in the Ballroom from 11:30 to 1:00, so be deciding what kind of delicious food you're going to bring! We have several of our "seasoned veterans" here at Eastern that will be retiring this month too: Blaine Villines, our head of Security, Marolyn Fazekas of the Business Office, and Teddy Marmon our Keeper of the Fleet. They're leaving some really big shoes to fill, and will all be missed terribly. I know we all work toward the goal of someday not having to get up and go to work, and we wish them all the best, but every leavetaking for whatever reason leaves a big hard-to-fill hole in our Eastern family. Our cold weather menu for today includes: Goulash Baked potato bar California blend vegetables Corn Cheesy vegetable beef soup Cheeseburgers French fries Hot rolls And for dessert have a piece of German Chocolate Cake or a serving of Peach Cobbler. I hope many of you get to come and meet this gentleman who got his start here at Eastern and went on to impact the world. Several VIP's are slated to be in attendance, along with former EOSC athletes and coaches. If you're looking for some great local entertainment, the Wilburton High School Speech Dept. will be presenting "Grease" this evening at 7:00 with a second performance tomorrow evening at 7:00. Don't miss this entertaining performance directed by Marie (Underwood) Bush and performed by some possible future Eastern stars. This Sunday is the date set for EOSC's 82nd annual Candlelighting presentation, under the direction of Mr. Paul Enis assisted by accompanist Mrs. Mary Ford. This is sure to be a beautiful and moving musical offering, so set aside some time to come and enjoy it at either 5:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. Our menu for today includes: Pork loin Mashed potatoes and gravy Corn Sweet peas Antigua blend vegetables BBQ chicken Hot rolls And for dessert have some luscious Cherry Cobbler. I sent it in plenty of time, but it got lost in the ozone somewhere, so by the time it showed up it was a listing of what we had for lunch, not what we were going to have. I felt somewhat better after I found out that plenty of other people were having trouble getting their emails to go through. (Misery loves company, you know.) I just hope today's makes it through before lunch is history. I hope all you employees are planning on attending the Employee Potluck Christmas Dinner today in the Ballroom. It will start at 11:30 and conclude at 1:00. It will be a come and go event, with drawings for door prizes throughout the meal, Christmas music, and lots of great food to sample and friends to visit with. It's always nice to attend these events, since there are a lot of people on campus and most of us just see the same few almost all the time. This way we get to see friends we don't get to see that often and catch up on things. The Staff Council wants to send a great big thank you out to Sally, Liz, Dana and all their helpers who decorated for the Sapphire Ball, since they were nice enough to leave all the beautiful decorations up for us to use for this dinner and it looks lovely. You'd better be getting ready for cold weather and possibly snow to be arriving later today. I'm glad the storm that came through last night made it while it was still warm enough for it to fall as rain and not as snow or ice! Don't forget to attend the retirement party for EOSC head of security Blaine Villines tomorrow in the President's Dining room between 2:00 and 4:00. We haven't been able to talk him out of leaving us, so we may as well give him a big send off and make the best of it. There will also be a retirement party for longtime Business Office worker Marolyn Fazekas tomorrow from 12:00 to 2:00 in the President's Dining Room, so be sure and get by to wish Marolyn all the best in her life of leisure. Our menu for today includes: Pork chops Mashed potatoes and gravy Pinto beans Greens Okra Corn bread rolls Macaroni and cheese with little smokies Indian tacos And for dessert have a piece of luscious Lemon Cake. Have a great day, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Let's just say there's going to be an extreme drop in temperature. Better have that de-icer and the windshield scraper ready, along with your warm clothes, gloves, etc. And if you have outside pets, be sure and fix them a warm bed so they can be comfortable during this cold snap. They don't like to be cold any more than we do, even if they do have a built in fur coat. Don't forget to stop by the Appreciation Party for Pat Turner in Sullivan 101, and the Retirement Party for Marolyn Fazekas in the President's Dinig Room. And if you haven't gotten your name in the drawing for the Bookstore Prize Giveaway, there's still time. Just go in there and buy something and tell them you want to get your name in the drawing box. They'll be serving punch and yummy cookies until they run out today. And if any of you are going to be in town this Saturday evening, come see the Wilburton Christmas Parade at 6:00. Santa Claus should be there! Our menu for today includes: Fish Shrimp poppers Crispy cube potatoes Cabbage Spinach Corn Macaroni and cheese Navy beans Mexican cornbread And for dessert have a helping of Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar.
