Message-ID: <49ABFE4A.6010608@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Whoohoo! We've made it to March! The days are already getting longer and will be getting warmer (maybe after today), and Spring Break is just around the corner! I believe this coming weekend will be the weekend to change our clocks, you know "spring forward"? We'll lose an hour of sleep, but what the heck, we'll be gaining an extra hour of daylight to get out and do stuff in! After being somewhat cooped up all winter, I'm ready to get outside some and and enjoy the spring flowers and the birds singing. And some days when I'm leaving work, I think I can hear the crack of a bat on a baseball or softball from over on the field! I'm not too up on all the details of the game, but I know that's a good sound when I hear it. Kinda puts a smile on my face and starts that John Fogerty song playing in my head...Put me in coach... Our lunch menu for today includes: Steak fingers Mashed potatoes and gravy Peas California blend vegetables Corn Baked potato bar Meat and cheese nachos Hot rolls And for dessert have some yummy soft serve Ice Cream with a variety of Toppings to choose from. Mar. 3 Message-ID: <49AD6699.4020501@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I'm running a little behind this morning. I guess I got out of my routine after going to the training session on productivity and managing your time first thing this morning. I did learn from it that we should do what we don't want to do first, so I guess I was thinking I'd better get on inventory, but in reality, I need to send out the menu first, (which is more enjoyable to me), so that people will be able to get it before lunch. It just seems to work better that way. (That was probably included in the part about deadlines.) Very Happy Birthday wishes go out today to recent employee of the month, Diamond Mills. I hope she has a wonderful day. All you budding actors and/or singers out there, don't forget to show up for open auditions for Little Shop of Horrors today at 6:00 in the Choir Room in Pratt Hall. I've seen the movie and it should be a hoot to be in. Our menu for today includes: Pork loin Mashed potatoes and brown gravy Macaroni and cheese Green beans Scandinavian blend vegetables Brussels sprouts Meatball subs Potato chips Hot rolls And for dessert have some Apricot Cobbler or Banana Pudding. Mar. 4 Message-ID: <49AEA1E3.9010700@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I enjoyed the Skillpath training sessions yesterday. One of the things we talked about a little was whether we're morning people or not. I'm definitely a NOT. (I need a T-shirt that says in big letters N.A.M.P. Not A Morning Person.) That's one reason I'll be so glad when the time changes this weekend (even though we'll lose an hour of sleep) and we get more daylight in the evening when it's good for something. (Why waste it when you're stuck at work anyway? If I'm at work, I don't care if it's dark outside, but when I get off, I want it to be daylight long enough for me to go enjoy it.) Personally, I think morning people must not have enough chores to do or they wouldn't be able to get in bed so doggone early to get up so early. They're obviously not having to wait up for a load of laundry to get done so they can put it in the dryer and start another one. Can you tell I'm still in my "tired and grumpy til after lunch" phase? Be sure and make plans to attend the Andrew Enis Percussion Concert this Friday evening at 7:00 at the Presbyterian Church. This talented young man comes from a musical background, being the son of Eastern's own music director, Mr. Paul Enis, and possesses a wonderful talent in his own right. This should prove to be a very unusual and entertaining concert and I encourage anyone interested in music to attend. Cost is $10 and assorted refreshments will be provided. This concert is part of the series sponsored by the Latimer County Arts Council and the proceeds will go toward providing all sorts of artistic and cultural programs to the four Latimer County school systems throughout the year. Our lunch menu for today includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and gravy Rice Green beans Corn Glazed carrots Baked potato bar Frito pies Hot rolls And for dessert have some irresistible Chocolate Delight. The weather is definitely improving to the point where we can all start getting out and getting some exercise and fresh air, and that should improve our mood and our weigh in results. I always walk over to the Fieldhouse for weigh in and that alone makes me feel like I've done something positive for myself (after I catch my breath, anyway). I wanted to attend the Nutrition Seminar the other day, but it was the same day we had the Skillpath training and I do have things I need to do, so I just had to let that go. I've noticed since I started working here that we have speakers frequently on a variety of different subjects that are open to us all to go and learn, and I try to take advantage of as many of these as I can, but sometimes it's just hard to get away from your work. Our menu for today includes: Meatloaf Au gratin potatoes Garden blend rice Zucchini and tomatoes Brussels sprouts California blend vegetables Hot ham and cheese on a bun Potato chips Potato soup And for dessert put a smile on your face with our wonderful Ice Cream and Toppings, (but you might want to wait til after you weigh in!). Even if it rains, we need the moisture to keep wildfires down and away from our homes and our wonderful woods. And wasn't this weekend wonderful? I've noticed a lot of trees and shrubs are blooming already. I don't know if that's a good thing or not, considering they're saying Wednesday we'll be back to more winterlike temperatures. So many times when our fruit trees, etc. bloom out this early, that's when we get another freeze or frost and lose all the fruit we were hoping to get. Just be sure and check out the wonderful white blossoms on the trees out front close to the highway before they get frost bit or windblown. They're gorgeous this time of year! We had a PAWS adoption day Saturday and did really well, finding homes for almost all of the dogs we offered, and names and numbers of the people interested in the ones that couldn't go right away. That's a really good feeling knowing we gave those dogs another chance at a better life. This morning it feels great outside, like spring has surely arrived, but they're predicting by this evening and tomorrow, it's going to backslide right back into winter again for about a week! I hope it doesn't do too much damage to all the beautiful spring flowers that have been fooled into blooming out already. I noticed several of those beautiful yellow forsythias and even some redbuds yesterday that were already in bloom. I've also noticed that they already have vegetable plants and flowers for sale in the grocery store and I've been pretty tempted to go buy some and plant them. The sad thing is, even though I love plants and flowers, I tend to have a brown thumb rather than a green one. I think I do better with dogs and cats. They can at least let me know when they're hungry or thirsty, where plants just sit there and shrivel up and die. March 24 Message-ID: <49C8F1C4.40801@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I can't keep up with this weather. We've had plenty of March winds and now they seem to have blown in some early April showers. I saw people flying kites this past weekend, but it was so windy that they kept crashing instead of flying. All you allergy sufferers better grab your tissues, I've noticed there's starting to be plenty of pollen sticking to things, like my car. Speaking of which, when I was driving home yesterday, I noticed a movement on my windshield. You know, one of those out of focus things that you're not really looking at but it's right in front of your face so you can't help but notice it. I focused in on the cause and realized it was a tiny baby praying mantis trekking across the inside of my windshield! As small as it was, about 1/4" I realized it must've just hatched out, which caused me to wonder how in the world it had gotten into my car...unless it had hatched out in there. My next thought concerned the fact that I don't think praying mantises don't hatch out singly. There's an egg case with gazillions of eggs left to hatch wherever the mother chooses to leave it, which in this case must've been somewhere in my car. Then I started looking around for more, which did not help my driving any at all, and noticed 3 or 4 more way up at the top of my windshield. I know praying mantises are "good bugs" but I really wasn't all that thrilled to be sharing my car ride home with a herd of them, all clinging upside down to my windshield and looking at me with their little alien looking faces. When I got home and actually had time to look, I found about two dozen of the little critters all clinging to my car windows, mostly on the passenger side, thank goodness! I tried to slide a piece of paper under some of them and relocate them to a shrub in my yard, but there are still plenty left that I couldn't reach, so if anyone needs some of the little beasties to relocate to your garden to eat pests, I can definitely hook you up. Please, anyone? I still feel like they're crawling on me! March 26 Message-ID: <49CB999A.20800@eosc.edu> Hi folks, It's Biggest Loser weigh-in day again, time to see whether we gained ground or lost it during Spring Break. My family and I went walking a few days recently, so I guess I'll get to see if that helped me lose weight or just work up an appetite! Don't forget about the EOSC Horticulture Dept. plant sale at the greenhouse open to all employees from 1:00 to 4:00. I love plants and flowers, but sometimes think they don't love me. I think I have a brown thumb rather than a green one. (I seem to do better with dogs and cats who can go get their own water.) I worry that if I get something it'll be like sentencing it to a slow death, but I know some of you could get a great start on a beautiful yard at this sale and support our Horticulture Dept. at the same time. And for the general public, the Horticulture Dept. will be holding a sale tomorrow starting at 10:00 in front of Fern's in downtown Wilburton. Happy Birthday wishes go out today to Coach Aric Thomas. I hope his birthday hits a home run! For anyone interested, we will be having our monthly PAWS meeting this evening at the Latimer County Library at 7:00. Come and attend if you're concerned about the welfare of dogs, (and cats and other critters, really). Our menu for today includes: Mesquite grilled chicken breast Scalloped potatoes Sweet peas Broccoli and cheese sauce Baked potato bar Burritos with chili and cheese Hot rolls And for dessert try a helping of luscious Peach Cobbler! Have a great day, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... (We decided we didn't want to have snowball fights and sledding at the picnic, after all.) This will be the Saturday of the Green Frog Festival in Wilburton, so maybe people can come to the picnic a while and attend the festival a while, just make a day of it. A little bird told me that yesterday was Nikki Heath's birthday, (our McAlester campus director). Are you guys still celebrating over there? Hope it was a good one. I hope a lot of you got to take advantage of the Horticulture Dept's. greenhouse plant sale yesterday. I went up and bought a few things to try. I had to get a couple of purple Wave Petunias, I just love them, along with 2 or 3 other things to see if I could manage not to kill them. I just don't think we had better plant anything outside just yet. They'll probably have to stay indoors for a while yet. If you didn't get to make it, the Horticulture Dept. will be having their sale in front of Fern's in downtown Wilburton starting at 10:00. I even left them one of my baby praying mantises. If he makes it he can be their mascot, and they can call him Zorak. (Anybody watch Space Ghost?) Our menu for today includes: Fish Hush puppies Chicken chunks Macaroni and cheese Corn Green beans French fries And for dessert have a Cookie Bar or some Ice Cream. Have a great weekend, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It looked like it was snowing popcorn at my house! And later that afternoon, it was all gone again. If you hadn't seen it you'd never have believe it had even happened! Just another example of our crazy, unpredictable Oklahoma weather. Let's hope we have better prospects for next weekend's Wilburton clean-up day. Happy Birthday wishes go out today to Linda Enis of the Business Office. Hope she has a great one! Our menu for today includes: Lasagna Steamed red potatoes Carrots Corn Broccoli cuts Baked potatoes Garlic bread Hamburgers French fries And for dessert have some yummy Ice Cream and Toppings!
