DECEMBER 1 Message-ID: <4CF67315.9030809@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Wow, I can't believe it's December already! But considering how cold it is outside, I guess I CAN believe it. BRRR! At least I didn't have to struggle with a frosty windshield this morning, but it's coming, I know. Better locate those gloves and windshield scrapers, and get that de-icer ready. Seems like that stuff is hard to find in the stores. They've got 57 different varieties of things to shine your tires up (before you have to drive them in mud and dirt and get them dirty again), but de-icer is almost extinct where I've been looking. I wound up buying a big jug of it from Dollar Store and transferring some of it into a smaller squirt bottle to use since I couldn't find the cans of spray de-icer. It's probably more economical buying the big jug anyway, so I should probably quit squawking and just be happy I could find THAT. I'm looking forward to the Employees Christmas Reception this afternoon. There are lots of goodies being prepared for it here in the Cafeteria, and I've been dying to sample some of them. Be sure and come over to the Ballroom this afternoon at 3:45 for this wonderful annual event, and be ready to sample lots of tasty goodies! We"ll also be recognizing three of our long-time campus employees as they prepare to retire: Donna Rice, Registrar; Judy Tate, OMTI Director; and Leona Johnson of our Human Resources office. After that, later this evening, the students will take over the Ballroom for the formal Snow Ball, a wonderful chance to see that these young folks really do clean up nicely. Our menu for today includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and gravy Broccoli Black eyed peas Vegetable beef soup Hot rolls And for dessert, have a yummy Brownie. Dec. 2 Message-ID: <4CF7C476.3020604@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I believe everyone who attended the Employee Christmas Reception yesterday had a great time. There was a really good turnout, great singing and entertainment by the Sound Sensations directed by Mr. Paul Enis and accompanied on piano by Mrs. Mary Ford, and lots of wonderful goodies provided by the Cafeteria Crew. Many thanks to Pres. Smith for hosting this wonderful event for Eastern's employees. (Janice Forwoodson, the "new girl" in the Human Resources office couldn't have picked a better first day on the job!) The only downside, if there could be said to have been one, is that we are about to bid farewell to three of our long-time, most dedicated Eastern employees. Donna Rice, EOSC Registrar, Leona Johnson of our Human Resources office, and Judy Tate, director of the Oklahoma Miner's Training Institute here on campus, are all leaving us this month, and will be sorely missed by all. Donna and Leona were able to attend the reception, but Judy, unfortunately was unable to be there. Be sure and come out this Sunday Dec. 5 for the 84th annual Candlelighting program at EOSC. There will be one performance at 5:00 p.m. and another at 8:00 p.m. free to all. It is sure to be a heartwarming performance as our talented music students perform to the theme "I'll Be Home for Christmas". With temperatures at night dipping down below freezing, be sure and put out warm bedding for any of your pets that have to be outside. This is especially important for older pets, or the very young or small animals. It's much better to find a way to allow them indoors. If you don't want to be out in the cold, you can bet they probably don't either. Our menu for today includes: Baked chicken breast Baked potatoes Corn Green beans Mixed vegetables Hot rolls And for dessert, have a luscious Lemon Bar. This might be a good weekend to spend cracking the books and making sure you're confident enough in your subjects to keep finals week from being too much of an ordeal. Tomorrow at 5:00 p.m., our men's basketball team will play Pulaskie Tech here in the Fieldhouse. Admission is only $1.00 to the public, and free to any EOSC student, staff or faculty. Our women's basketball team will be on the road to Missouri to take on Crowder College. Don't forget to attend Eastern's 84th annual Candlelighting program this Sunday in Mitchell Auditorium. There will be two performances, one at 5:00 p.m. and one at 8:00 p.m. This will be a beautifiul dramatic musical program titled "I'll Be Home for Christmas" featuring the song styling of the 1940's performed by our own very talented EOSC students, and admission is FREE. This project was founded to help provide a few presents for opening on Christmas morning for children who have been submitted to us. I have been given ages and gender of children for most families and some have given sizes of clothing/shoes as well. We normally do not have clothing donated from the students and therefore it is a stretch to say that any will be provided. There are several charity's that provide needed clothing items in McAlester and also in Wilburton. First Baptist Church in McAlester has clothes closet distributions once a month, also Shared Blessings is available for clothing needs in McAlester. There are churches in the Wilburton area that also provide clothing needs. We will be collecting Toys until Tuesday morning. Our annual Christmas wrapping party will begin at noon on Tuesday, Dec 7th. If you have some time on Tuesday and would like to help us out, please come over to Mitchell 120 & 119. We will provide food for your lunch if you will provide some muscle and time to wrap!!! Thank you to all the students who have participated so far. I look forward to seeing anyone who would like to help us on Tuesday. Dec. 6 Message-ID: <4CFD0921.5030009@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Wow, where has the semester gone? It's Finals Week here at Eastern, so regular schedules are out the window for teachers and students. We had lots more than the usual crowd come in for breakfast this morning to charge up the old brain cells, hoping to fuel up and be awake and alert to get through today's finals. As for tomorrow's, and the rest of the week, you'll want to be sure and come over to the Cafeteria for "Pillows and Pancakes" this evening, from 11:00 to 1:00 for a cram session of studying and eating a late night pancake breakfast. This will give students a great chance to find a classmate and brush up on all those facts and formulas that you may not quite have down yet, while enjoying some good food and friendship with others who are in the same boat with you. A little bird told me that today is the birthday of our new Postal Clerk, David Martinez. If I had known that I'd've wished him a happy one when I went to mail a bill off a while ago. Anyway, David, we at Eastern hope you have a great birthday! I hope you all got to attend Eastern's 84th Candlelighting last night. It was a great performance by both the singers, and actors, (not to mention all the backstage folks it takes to pull it all together). Congratulations to Mr. Paul Enis and all his performers on another wonderful performance! Our menu for today includes: Beef stroganoff Steamed red potatoes Corn Green beans Mixed vegetables Sauerkraut and smoked sausages Hot rolls And for dessert, have a piece of Pumpkin Pie. Let us hope and pray that there will be no more days like that. On a lighter note, one day down, and only four more days of finals week left! I hope things are going well, and our students are prepared for their tests. I know everyone is ready to get this week behind them and go onto Christmas break. (I know I am! I am SOOOO ready to not have to hear that doggone alarm clock for a while! It's got to be my LEAST favorite appliance.) Very Happy Birthday wishes go out today to one of my favorite ladies on campus, Mrs. Marilynn Duncan, and also to second generation EOSC instructor, Mr. Philip Hawthorne. I hope they both have a wonderful day. There are several things going on on campus today, starting with the Horticulture Department Pointsettia and Houseplant Sale in the Student Center Lobby from 10:30 to 1:00, where you can get a beautiful Christmas gift for someone else, or something to decorate your own home, (it's good to have a touch of green in the dead of winter), the Phi Theta Kappa Christmas wrapping party when PTK members and volunteers wrap up all the much needed and appreciated Christmas gifts for families who might not have had a very merry Christmas otherwise, and this afternoon at 2:00 in the Library Conference Room, there will be a Staff Council meeting if anyone is interested in attending just to find out what's up.
