Kelsey Reding, sophomore pitcher from Aubrey, Texas, pitched a 2 hitter and struck out 12 to get her first win on the new season. Offensive leaders include: Megan Cody, freshman second baseman from Tulsa Memorial, with two hits, two stolen bases, and scoring two runs. Liz Cecil, freshman catcher from Wilburton, with two hits including a double off the fence, and two rbi's. Erica Love, freshman from Preston, with three stolen bases as she stole second, third, and home, running for Cecil after her second hit in the third inning. SECOND GAME: Eastern 3 North Central Texas 2(North Central represented one of the Texas Regions in the NJCAA World Series last year) 11 am game time. . Kelsey Reding wins her second game giving up only 3 hits, walks her only hitter in two games, and strikes out seven against a STRONG North Central team. Offensive leaders include: Ashlee Faries, freshman from Mesquite, Texas, with two hits including a run scoring double off the fence in left. Taylor Royall of Mesquite, Texas, had two hits, one a double. Rachel Powers, sophomore from Caddo Mills, Texas, had one hit and made several good catchers in centerfield to help Reding. Cody had one hit and made two great plays on hard hit ground balls at second. Leaving campus at 5:30am on Sunday we played in the Northeast Texas Festival at Mt. Pleasant, Texas. FIRST GAME: Northeast Texas 1 Eastern 0 11am game time. Kelsey Reding throws great game but loses in bottom of seventh with two outs on a bloop hit to left field on a check swing, only the fifth hit in the game for Northeast. Eastern could only manage two hits off the left-handed ace from Northeast, Texas. Kaylee Bowman, freshman outfielder from Lone Oak, Texas, and Cecil provided the only Eastern hits. Eastern had runners on first and second in the top of the seventh with nobody out; but, a couple of questionable umpire calls took Eastern out of the inning. Northeast was playing their 15th. game of the new season. SECOND GAME: Crowder, Missouri 6 Eastern 2 1pm game time. Emily Gaulden, sophomore from Ethel, Louisiana, starts this game and pitches three good innings, and was relieved in the fourth by Emily Giles, sophomore from Celeste,Texas. Eastern had two run lead thru 3 and 1/3 innings off the Missouri Region representative in the NJCAA World Series last year and Crowder is nationally ranked 10th. in the NJCAA pre-season poll this season. The early lead was due largely to the LONG home run Ashlee Faries hit 25 feet over the foul pole to left field, her first round-tripper of the year. Eastern was held to 3 hits off two outstanding Crowder pitchers. Crowder has outstanding pitching for a junior college and has great overall team speed. Crowder had played several games in the Houston and El Paso areas previous to the Northeast Festival. The Lady Mountaineers run their early season record to 2-2. Next games for the softball ladies would be Western HERE in OCAC conference games this coming Friday and Saturday. Two games each day, starting at 1pm on Friday and noon on Saturday. If our field is not playable by those dates we intend to play at Red Oak High School. March 2 Grill Open Message-ID: <4B8D3495.60801@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I'm still waiting on March weather to actually get here, and I don't mean those old March winds either. The warmer spring temperatures are what I'm looking forward to. I'm tired of us all complaining about the cold and the mud, and ready to start hearing people complain about the heat! I don't think our Baseball and Softball teams will complain about the heat for a while, though. They're probably thoroughly sick and tired of getting their games rained out, or having to drive to somewhere dry to play. BP will be using a classroom in Baker today so there may be extra people around that part of the campus, plus we'll be having the Skills USA Leadership Contest upstairs in the Student Center Ballroom today, so there should be several extra people in this area. Be ready to help them if they need directions or other assistance. Don't forget to go weigh in today at the Fieldhouse with Loma between 10:00 and 12:30 if you're participating in the Biggest Loser contest on campus. Sheryl will once again have a tasty, healthy dish prepared for you along with copies of the recipe for it to add to your arsenal of diet aids. She is putting forth her best efforts to motivate the group, as well as herself, to get healthier and lose those extra pounds most all of us are carrying around needlessly. And Anne Hester suggests watching Biggest Loser on TV tonight for more weight loss tips and motivation. She suggests instead of sitting through the commercials (or getting up and browsing the fridge), you could do some quick exercises and burn a few calories right there in your living room. McAlester students may apply by meeting with me at the McAlester Campus on Tuesdays from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m I will be in the Wanda Bass lobby as usual. In order to qualify for the scholarship, you MUST be receiving a pell grant, you MUST have an unmet need greater than $890, and you MUST be an active participant who joined the SSS project during last semester (Fall 09) or before. The only other condition is that you did NOT receive the grant last semester. DO NOT think that just because you are getting pell and OTAG or any other financial aid, and it covers your tuition and books, that you don't have an unmet need. Unmet need is assessed by looking at your total COA (cost of attendance.) The Department of ED gave us extra money this year for Grant Aid that must be used by the end of this semester, so we are wanting you to sign up so we can help those students who are in greatest need. Please call me at 918-465-1823 or e-mail me at slovett at eosc.edu for further information. Also: SSS has opened a new Facebook account. Each of our members will be receiving an invitation to join in the next few days. If you do not have a Facebook account, and need help in setting one up, please let one of us know and we can help you set it up. Most of the news and events will be posted on Facebook. We are in the process of also having a WebCT account for SSS participants. We are making every effort to keep you informed, but you have to be responsible for getting the information as well. I can't remember when I've had such a good laugh! Jennifer Pearson, who plays Myra, and Marissa Scott, who plays her friend Betty, are both wonderful in their roles. (Jennifer is convincingly ditzy, and Marissa's portrayal of total confusion is hysterical!) And Boomer Lowrie, Chris Horstman and Laura Myers will have you laughing your tights off in the Shakespearean roles! The curtain opens this evening at 7:30, and you don't want to miss it! Remember it's free to all EOSC students, staff and faculty, and only $3 for all others. If you're looking for a companion of the canine variety, PAWS will be having adoption days at PetSense in McAlester on Saturday and in front of Roy's on Sunday. We've got lots of puppies and older dogs looking for good homes, so come see if we've got a new best friend for you! This Sunday, the Latimer County Arts Council will help host an appreciation dinner honoring the Red Oak Mason's organization for all the good works they've done in the past several years for local citizens in need. They have selflessly raised and donated many thousands of dollars to people needing help with extreme medical expenses, given scholarships, and helped so many people in so many ways it seemed very appropriate to do this to show them how much they are appreciated. If you've been the recipient of their generosity, just bring a covered dish and join us at the Red Oak School this Sunday starting at noon, and let these men know how much they mean to this area. Due to a manpower (or woman power) shortage, we will not be opening the Grill today. Hang in there til next week, when I'm sure we'll be back up and running again. March 10 Message-ID: <4B97C36A.80803@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Looks like another really nice day out, but there are chances of thunderstorms in the area this evening. Still, the birds are singing, the daffodils are blooming, the March winds are blowing, so get out and enjoy it while you can. There should be a big celebration in Sullivan today, as Pat Ratliff celebrates a major birthday. I won't mention any specific numbers, but will say, I'm right behind you, kid! Enjoy!!! I was thrilled to see the announcement of Helen Scott, administrative assistant in the GearUp Program, as this year's winner of the J. C. Hunt Award for professional/support staff person of the year, and Leland Walker, Division Chair and Instructor for the Agriculture Education Division, as the winner of the President's Excellence in Teaching award, for faculty person of the year. They, along with two recipients of the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Ben Curtis, class of '56, and Dr. Dan Denny, class of '77, and one recipient of the President's Community Spirit Award, Mr. Joe Coy, will be honored at the Sapphire Ball Black and White Gala in the Ballroom on March 27. Make plans to attend this event if at all possible to help honor these very deserving supporters of our college. After today, we just have to make it through two more days and then we're off for Spring Break! I'm getting excited, aren't you? Our menu for today includes: Roast beef Mashed potatoes and gravy Green beans Carrots Black eyed peas Broccoli and cheese soup Hot rolls And for dessert have a piece of luscious Cheesecake! March 11 Message-ID: <4B99141A.3070907@eosc.edu> Hi folks, So far so good on the weather front. It looks like today might be a keeper, with temperatures getting up to around 60 and only a very slight chance of rain in the forecast. I got some late information yesterday that Sharon Sullivan of the Financial Aid Office was celebrating her birthday. I hope she enjoyed it. Don't forget about the Spring Concert this evening at 7:00 in Mitchell Auditorium presented by Mr. Paul Enis and his Concert Choir, the Sound Sensations and soloists performing a variety of musical numbers. They always put on a wonderful performance. I was privileged to attend the Honors Reception at the White House yesterday evening. As this year's research project, this fine group of students, under the direction of Mrs. Ruth Brelsford, had studied an important sociological experiment that had been conducted at Robber's Cave State Park back in 1954, and presented their findings on it. The presentations that I got to see were very interesting, and the catering by our own Cafeteria staff was beautiful as well as delicious. Unfortunately I had to leave before I got to speak with any of the individual students on their research, but hope to get to hear more about this experiment which is considered a landmark event in sociological circles, but is virtually unknown in this area, where it actually took place. Our menu for today includes: Ham Scalloped potatoes Baked beans Mixed vegetables Broccoli cuts Tomato soup And for dessert, have some Ice Cream and Toppings. I get so tired of being cooped up indoors so much in the winter, but when I go outside, I soon realize it wasn't such a bad place after all! The Cafeteria will be closing after lunch today, so no dinner meal will be served today. Some of our Eastern family will be fortunate enough to celebrate their birthday during Spring Break Week, starting with the Agriculture Department's Todd Blocker on Monday the 15th, then Gear Up's Peery Lee on St. Patrick's Day, Kathy Howe of Student Support Services on Saturday the 20th, and finally Dr. Billye Givens of the Language and Education Division on Sunday March 21. I hope they all enjoy their week off and especially their own special part of it. Fellow procrastinators, those of you who are on the list to take the NIMS test(s) need to get your first one done this month! Get yourself some caffeine and get started, it takes a while to complete. March 23 Message-ID: <4BA8D1AE.4060208@eosc.edu> Welcome back everyone! Wow! Who'd've thought when we went off to Spring Break that we'd have almost a foot of snow to contend with before we got back! Not me, that's for sure! So my de-icer and windshield scraper are in my wagon which is in the shop, awaiting a transmission transplant, (I may have to take up a collection for this so be sure and donate generously LOL), and I was out there yesterday morning scraping the windshield of my borrowed ride with a spatula and a butter knife. I may not be much of a cook, but I found out that I can spatula a windshield pretty good! I also found out that even though the snow looks pretty even, what is under it may not be, and if you're not careful you'll wind up making half a snow angel in it! Now that the snow is pretty much melted, I can begin to see all the spring blossoms coming out on the Bradford pears, forsythias, and those beautiful red flowering quinces, along with daffodils and hyacinths. I made sure to bring in a small bouquet of my daffodils before the snow hit, and it's a good thing because now the ones that I didn't pick are on the ground from the weight of the snow. (I'm just SO glad it wasn't ice, like we've had a couple of times before in the past few years!) Don't forget about the Biggest Loser Weigh-in today! Time to go see if you were good over Spring Break! And be watching for the email I'll be sending out soon about new breakfast options in the Cafeteria! Our menu for today includes: Pork chops Buttered potatoes Peas and carrots Broccoli cuts Tacos Refried beans Spanish rice Hot rolls And for dessert, dive into a yummy piece of Chocolate Cake! And don't forget the Grill is open today. Have a great Tuesday, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I know there was a lot of hard work and planning, not to mention blood, sweat and tears that went into putting this event together, and those involved are to be congratulated. I had to crack up over the email I got this morning asking for my email address and password or I would be "deactivated". It also said it was from EOSC support, and I can't imagine why I thought it was spam when it plainly stated that "It are not spam". Now if some of you don't have a problem with that statement, you are probably not going to graduate. Maybe you should go immediately over to our English Department and Dr. Givens or anyone else in the vicinity can straighten you out on this. Grammatical errors like this have always been a red flag to me, (not that I'm above making them myself), but they make me very suspicious as to the credibility of the person sending the message, especially when I receive an email from some unknown person asking for my password, etc. Never give out this kind of information to anyone you're not absolutely sure about, (and you should still think about it twice.) March 30 Message-ID: <4BB20D57.6090909@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Wow, it looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day outside! We're supposed to have the warmest temperatures we've had in months. People can finally put their shorts on without getting goosebumps to go along with them! This kind of weather really gets you in the right mood for the Horticulture Dept. plant sale open to Eastern Staff, Faculty and Students tomorrow at the Greenhouse from 12:00 to 4:00. They will have several varieties of flowering plants available, along with tomato and pepper plants. Be sure and get yours while the supply lasts! Thursday, the sale will be held in the Chamber of Commerce parking lot on Main Street from 10:00 til close, and will be open to the public. Happy Birthday wishes go out today to Business Office Manager, Linda Enis. I hope she gets to take some time to enjoy this beautiful day. Don't forget today is Biggest Loser weigh-in day! Go see Loma and check your progress, and if you're not making any, it would be a mighty fine day to get out and enjoy a walk in the beautiful outdoors. (See I didn't even call it exercise.) Like Leland Walker said in his email yesterday, reminding us that we owe much of the natural beauty on campus to the efforts of instructor Eddie Woods and former instructor Dan Stone, get out and enjoy the beautiful blooms on campus or in the area. If you want to see more of the area, Robber's Cave State Park is only 5 miles north and has wonderful scenic trails to explore. Our sympathy goes out to the family of our friend Marolyn Fazekas. She will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved her. Several of the Eastern family will be attending her services this afternoon, so please be patient if the person you need to see isn't in their office right then. We need a few hours to grieve for our friend. Don't forget, it's a short week this week, with no classes and offices closed on Good Friday. The Cafeteria will serve Brunch and Dinner only that day, so sleep in if you're still on campus. We won't start serving till 11:00. (I always figure every Friday is a good Friday, this one is just better!) Our menu for today includes: Pork loin Mashed potatoes and gravy Broccoli and cheese Okra Corn Hot rolls And for dessert, have a piece of one of our Assorted Pies. Don't forget, the Grill is open. Have a beautiful day, Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... March 31 Message-ID: <4BB368C6.4060808@eosc.edu> Hi folks, OOOOH! I hate it when that happens! I was working on today's email and my computer kept giving me the "starting to refresh" message, and I kept putting it off and then we had a quick meeting and the sneaky thing refreshed itself while I was gone, losing everything I had down so far. I thought I was supposed to be in charge of it, not the other way around! Don't forget the Horticulture Plant Sale from Noon till 4:00 today at the Greenhouse, open to all EOSC staff, faculty and students. Go see Penny and her students and check out their selection of flowering and garden plants and get your garden growing! The Cafeteria will be open on Friday for those few students left on campus, but will serve Brunch and Dinner only, so go ahead and sleep in. We won't start serving till 11:00. Our menu for today includes: Hamburger steak Mashed potatoes and gravy Green beans Fried squash Hot rolls And for dessert, have a helping of Mississippi Mud Cake. Don't forget about our great Grill sandwiches. Have a great day, (and keep an eye on those sneaky computers), Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
