It's hard to believe this is the last week of September in spite of the cooler temperatures and shorter daylight hours! Students, please remember that you can only use your meal card to scan for breakfast up to 9:45. After that, sales will be cash only. Anyone having an Employee of the Month Nomination should turn it in to a Staff Council member or drop it in the Suggestion Box in the Mail Room in Choctaw Hall this week. Nominations should always be turned in by the last Friday of the month to be eligible for the next month's selection. Anyone, whether faculty, staff or student, may nominate an employee that they feel is doing a superior job. (The President, Vice Presidents, Department Heads and Staff Council members are not eligible for nomination.) Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Bookstore Manager, Ali Martinez, and husband George today. May they have many more happy years together. Wednesday is ECU transfer day, so if you're interested in going to ECU when you graduate from Eastern, or if you'd just like to learn more about it, come by and visit with the ECU rep who will be here in the Student Center lobby from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Also, Wednesday, there will be a Student Government meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and I'm sure there will be lots of upcoming events to discuss so make sure and have all your representatives on hand. Thursday, will be Shred It pickup day, so fill those bins! The bin in our building is upstairs and I'm downstairs, so I keep a folder on my desk for those random papers I might toss in the trash. Instead of trashing them, I put them in the folder and when it gets bulky, I take it upstairs and put it all in the Shred It bin for recycling. At last report, Lynn Hackworth stated that Eastern had saved 99 trees by recycling our trash paper, thus preventing many trees from having to be cut down and turned into paper products. Way to go, recyclers! Instructor and Honors Club advisor, Ruth Brelsford, is very proud that her Honor Students are getting on the recycling bandwagon, and will be encouraging others to do the same. Thursday evening, there will be a PAWS meeting at the Latimer County Public Library at 7:00 for anyone interested in attending. We'd be glad to have other dog lovers join us. Saturday, Eastern will once again play host to the Kiamichi Electric annual meeting in the field house. If you're a Kiamichi Electric customer, be sure and attend. You might be one of the lucky ones to win a door prize! Also Saturday, the Petal Pushers will be hosting a Basket Auction at the Farmer's Market to raise money for our lovely downtown flower boxes on Main Street. The harsh summer weather was rough on the flowers and shrubs and it is time to replenish some of them, so come buy a basket, or bring a basket to auction off. Our menus for this week include: Monday: Beef enchilada casserole, Mexican rice, Refried beans, Corn, Cheese nachos, Cornbread, and Chocolate Cake Tuesday: Chicken strips or BBQ on a bun, Mashed potatoes and gravy, or Fries, Baked beans, Corn on the cob, Fried okra, Hot rolls, and Apple Cobbler. Wednesday: Meatloaf, Scalloped potatoes, Pinto beans, Turnip greens, Fried squash, Cornbread and Hot rolls, and Blackberry Cobbler. Thursday: Pork chops, Mashed potatoes and gravy, Stuffing, Green beans, Baby carrots, Cabbage, Hot rolls, and Assorted pies. Friday: Spaghetti with meat sauce, Corn, Broccoli, Vegetable medley, Garlic bread, Pizza, and Chocolate chip cookies. The lecture will discuss gender and economic issues in the Middle East, with a focus on gender and its ramifications in Jordan. All Eastern students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Contact me with any questions you may have. Kristen Turner From NSU's website: 'Reflections on Jordan' presentation is Sept. 29 at NSU (Tahlequah, Okla.)--Challenging preconceived notions regarding the role of women in the Middle East, two faculty members who recently returned from Jordan will conduct a free lecture on September 29. Northeastern State University faculty Dr. Amy Aldridge Sanford and Dr. Dilene Crockett will discuss their International Faculty Development fellowships in Jordan. ?Reflections on Jordan? will be at 2p.m. in Room 614 of the W. Roger Webb Educational Technology Center with Sanford and in Room 114 of Language Arts in Broken Arrow with Crockett. The sites will be in contact through ITV. The presentation will also be carried live to Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton (Library Room 314). ?We learned so much about women in the Middle East that challenged our assumptions, we wanted to share it with others,? said Crockett, associate professor of business administration at NSU-Broken Arrow. Crockett and Sanford visited Jordan in June to study gender and economic issues in the Middle East. The trip was arranged by the Council on International Education Exchange in cooperation with NSU. Sanford said her most prominent topic will be gender and its ramifications in Jordan. ?Men can be victims in a society where masculinity is dominant,? she said. ?In Jordan, birth order is important. The first born male is well-treated but also faces high expectations. Daughters are often bossed around by their brothers ? even younger brothers ? and that can make for difficult relationships among siblings. The genders don?t associate with each other as friends. That duality can be dangerous.? The presentation will also discuss what gender relations in Jordan can teach those living in western cultures. ?I will talk about what it means to be masculine or feminine in dress, on the job and in one?s free time,? Sanford said. ?Every society gets its ideas about masculinity and femininity from much the same sources. Families, spiritual beliefs, pop culture ? these all influence the rules we live by.? -- Kristen E. The presentation will cover the summer fellowship of Drs. Amy Aldridge Sanford and Dilene Crockett in Jordan. These pages are for all EOSC students to use. Students can access EOSC student services through these webpages whether they are online or on campus. Our pages are located at: http://www.nasnti.eosc.edu/ You can also click on the My EOSC links on the EOSC homepage. We are currently piloting our online services and conducting a satisfaction survey to gauge student response to our new site. We need to have at least 100 students complete our satisfaction survey by tomorrow (Friday) so that we can continue developing other online services through our NASNTI grant. Please help us out by checking out My EOSC and take the satisfaction survey. To take the survey, you must start a live chat with our new help chat service by clicking on a live chat icon on any of our My EOSC pages. End the chat by clicking the End Chat button. A window should appear that invites you to take the survey. Just click the OK button and the survey will appear. When you have finished answering the 6 opinion questions, click the Submit button to finish the survey. We thank you for helping us out and hope that our new online services will benefit all of our EOSC students! -- ________________________________________ Sonny Bedford NASNTI Online Student Services Developer Eastern Oklahoma State College 1301 West Main Street Wilburton, OK 74578 sbedford at eosc.edu (918)465-1873 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
