From rwatkins at eosc.edu Mon Apr 2 10:09:27 2012 From: rwatkins at eosc.edu (Rhoda Watkins) Date: Mon, 02 Apr 2012 10:09:27 -0500 Subject: [Eoscstudents] Menus for Mon. April 2 to Fri. April 6 Message-ID: <4F79C127.3000608@eosc.edu> Hi folks, Well, the big news here in the Cafeteria this week is that Mildred is back off sick leave! We've warned her not to push herself too much, though. She was very ill and run down and doesn't need to have a repeat of that. Kevin has been handling things well, but I'm sure we're all glad to have her back as it's getting to be a very busy time of the year and we'll need her expertise on certain things to get us through. Tomorrow Eastern will host the annual Scholastic Contest on campus, so there will be no college classes, but we'll have swarms of high school students here to compete in the various categories in the hoping to win in their respective subjects and bring honor to themselves and their school, and possibly win a $600.00 scholarship to Eastern when they graduate. Be sure to make them welcome and give them any assistance they may require. Wednesday, there will be a job fair at McAlester. Eastern will provide transportation to this event for up to 30 students who pre-register with Dana Lewis at 918-465-1818 before 5:00 today. This fair will enable students to visit with business contacts as well as four-year college representatives to learn about more options for the future. Thursday, have those Shred-It bins full as the Shred-It truck will be here to empty them once again. I keep a file folder on my desk labeled "Recycling" to stick papers in to run to the bin on occasion. Friday we will be having a campus-wide Full Scale Emergency Drill, so be ready to evacuate if necessary or to take whatever action is appropriate to the given circumstances. Birthdays on campus this week include: Wednesday, EOSC Theatre Director and Latimer County Arts Council President, Melissa Lee; Friday, Assistant Librarian, Kim Pendergraft and OMTI Administrative Assistant Danita Oller; Saturday, Student Services Administrative Assistant Dana Lewis, and Sunday, Financial Aid Administrative Assistant Amanda White. Please wish all these wonderful people some great birthdays! And Sunday, Happy Easter! Our menus for this week include: Monday: Tortilla Casserole, refried beans, Mexican rice, cornbread, cheesecake Tuesday: BBQ on a bun, chicken strips, French fries, potato salad, baked beans, brownies Cyber Cafe: Hamburgers, chicken strips, fries Wednesday: Pork loin, mashed potatoes, pinto beans, green beans, corn, hot rolls, fresh apple cake Thursday: Chicken alfredo, steamed baby red potatoes, California blend vegetables, wild rice, green beans, hot rolls, blackberry cobbler Friday: Fish or salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes, pinto beans, turnip greens, corn on the cob, cornbread, cobbler Have a great week at Eastern. Come eat with us, we appreciate your business! Rhoda :-) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It is all happening Wed, April 18. 6:30-8 is the time slot for the carnival with lots of cool contests and prizes. The Street Dance will start about 8 p.m. Events include: a Trashy Costume Contest (make your costume out of recyclables), Recycle Relay Race (grab your friends and form a team! How about baseball boys vs basketball boys or softball girls vs basketball girls? Or, forgive my gender bias, any boys vs any girls!), Castle Building Contest, face painting, and amazing scientific demonstrations by the Chemistry Club. There will be prizes and give-aways. Food available: burgers cost 2 plastic bottles while dessert costs one smashed can or one cardboard box. This will be a lot of fun if everybody comes out, so, please, come and help Eastern GO GREEN! Ask any ESGA officer or SAACS member or Mrs. Brelsford, if you have questions. See you there! --rb -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... There will be NO CLASSES for current students, so be sure and use the time to work on anything you need to finish up for this semester, as it's winding down quickly! Wednesday will bring a Recycling Street Carnival sponsored by Eastern's Honors Program, Student Government, Aggie Club and Chemistry Club (SAACS), to inaugurate Eastern's new recycling trailer and celebrate upcoming Earth Day. The fun will start at 6:30 in front of the Student Center, and will include a Recycling Relay Race, Trashy Costume Contest, Face Painting, building castles out of recyclables, and demonstrations from the chemistry students. This will be followed by a dance in the Ballroom sponsored by the Nursing Department. Thursday there will be a Building Monitor meeting in the Ballroom to discuss last week's Emergency Drill. And Thursday evening will bring the annual Aggie Banquet at 6:00 in the Ballroom. Friday at 11:30, Student Support Services will hold their graduation luncheon in the Ballroom for all their graduating students. And this Sunday will be Earth Day, so do something nice for our planet. Plant a tree, recycle your trash, walk instead of driving if possible; there are many things you can do that will make a difference over time. The one and only birthday that I know of on campus this week is our very own Food Service Manager, Mildred Whisenhunt on Wednesday, April 18, so be sure and wish her a great day! And keep an eye on our Baseball Team if you can. They have a game today, and more on Tuesday, Wednday, Saturday and Sunday of this week! They're going to be very busy! Good luck guys! This is a yearly luncheon in honor of those staff members who do not run the show, but try and keep everything flowing smoothly for those who do. Also, today, Leland Walker is hosting a group of FFA students for the yearly FFA Interscholastic Speech Contest. Please make them welcome on our campus. Wednesday will bring the Employee Recognition Reception at 3:30 in the Ballroom, to recognize those Eastern employees who have put in a number of years of service to help make Eastern the great institution that it is. And at 6:00 on Wednesday, also in the Ballroom, there will be a special show by Brian Brushwood, comedy/magician, featuring various entertaining acts of Bizarre Magic. Watch for more information about the yearly Spring Musical later this week! There's been a lot of sweat and tears put into the preparations for this show and it is sure to be a good one! Friday and Saturday, will bring cheerleader tryouts in the Fieldhouse. Check with our Student Services office for tryout times for each day. And finally, on Saturday evening, Eastern will host the yearly Sapphire Ball. The theme for this year's festivities will be "A Walk on the Red Carpet". Be sure and attend this spectacular event if you can to honor several special people who have contributed greatly to Eastern's success. The show is a musical review with lots of our favorite Broadway musicals numbers - solos and group numbers - entitled Lemonade: The Musical Review. The shows will be Thursday and Friday at 7:30pm in Mitchell Auditorium on the Wilburton campus - and tickets are FREE for Everyone. Also, we'll be serving Free Lemonade in the hallway at intermission, so bring your friends and family and head out for a family-friendly evening of music and fun. Also, if you can't make an evening show, we are opening up our final dress rehearsal for local audiences. It will be Thursday at 3pm. Thank you! May 4 Message-ID: <4F9EA26B.4000803@eosc.edu> Hi folks, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready to get back to work or class today! There's a lot going on as the semester winds down to graduation this Friday! The big event for this evening is the yearly Athletic Banquet at 6:00 in the Ballroom, and I'm sure it will be extra special what with the high ranking our men's basketball team attained at a national level this season. Congratulations to all our student athletes and coaches! Tuesday the Ballroom will once again be busy as we host the Wilburton School Academic Banquet. Our ballroom is becoming a popular venue for special Wilburton High School events, which have traditionally been held in their gymnasium, cafeteria or commons room. Wednesday, we will be hosting a tour group from Smithville, sponsored by the OU Gear Up group. Be sure and make them welcome. Also on Wednesday, the EOSC Development Foundation will host two meetings with Mr. Jimmy Williams, Foundation president, in the Student Center classroom, with any interested faculty and staff invited to attend. The first meeting will be held from Noon to 1:00 and lunch will be provided. Attendees are asked to go through the line in the Cafeteria and inform the cashier that they will be attending the Foundation meeting. The second meeting will be held from 2:30 to 3:30, and light refreshments will be provided. Thursday, be sure and fill your Shred-It bins with any confidential papers that should not be disposed of in the regular recycling containers, as the Shred-It bins wiill be emptied that day. And finally, Friday, will bring the Nurses' Pinning Ceremony and the moment our sophomores have been waiting for for two long (or short) years! GRADUATION! Congratulations Graduates! We'll miss you! Then on Saturday we will host the Wilburton High School prom in the Ballroom, and our special J. C. Hunt Award winner for this year, Anne Hester Brooks, will celebrate her birthday! That's two big Saturdays in a row for you, Anne! We had a lot of fun and launched the Recycling Trailer which is back in its home spot in the far west end of Salmon Hall parking lot. Recycling is so important to this campus so pull around and dump your plastics, paper, cardboard, and aluminum/tin. Students: don't just throw your trash away when you clean your dorm rooms, RECYCLE! It only takes a few extra minutes and means so much! Thanks --rb -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
