As of this semester, I suppose our new soccer coach will join them in this. The first ESGA (Student Government) meeting for this semester will be held this evening at 7:00 in Student Center Room 224. The Latimer County Free Fair will be held in the Goddard Building (in the Agriculture Complex area across the highway from campus) this Friday and Saturday. There will be lots of wonderful things to see that are homemade or home grown or created by area residents both young and young at heart. And there are always farm animals on display and an interesting pet show. (I saw my first goat wearing clothes there a couple of years back.) Lunch menus for the week include: Monday: Oven baked chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, dinner rolls, roasted corn, California blend vegetables, black eyed peas, fried okra, and brownies. Tuesday: Swedish meatballs over egg noodles, baby carrots, Tuscan blend vegetables, dinner rolls, baked potatoes, meatloaf, steamed broccoli and cheese, Poke Cake. Here are some tips that might help prevent you from becoming the victim of a theft or burglary: 1. Don?t leave items on show ANYWHERE ? Not on show in the car, not on an exposed windowsill, not in a shared kitchen, not in a room you THINK is secure. If it?s visible to others, it?s a temptation for thieves. 2. Mark your belongings ? Computers, iPods and expensive electrical equipment is best off marked with personal identifiers. Do it with a marker, or with an invisible UV pen. You could even go as far as customizing your stuff with a personal branding or logo. Don?t be too pretentious though! ;-) 3. Lock doors, even if you?re only going away for a few moments ? People don?t always see the point in locking up unless they?re going out for a specific longer-term purpose. But I?ve seen people who go out and don?t come back for hours (they get caught up in something else) and I?ve heard stories where a door was left open for about two minutes while the student went to a communal area, but valuable items were stolen in that time (possibly a ?friend? who couldn?t resist the grab, or a visitor who spotted an opportunity??). If you?re leaving the area, keep it secure! 4. Insure your belongings ? Don?t chance it. If you?re going to have most of your possessions with you while away at college, it would be unwise not to open an insurance policy. Even if the worst does happen, at least you would be due a payout. Without insurance, you?re left with absolutely nothing. 5. Don?t let people follow through in secured areas ? In many secure communal areas, you will need a key to get through. However, it?s commonplace for people to make their way in, only to be followed by another person and let in without a thought. If you want to keep your belongings as safe as you can, don?t let anyone in just because they happen to be behind you. It?s bad enough when people you don?t know are visiting others within the communal area, but at least you won?t add to the problem by blindly letting anyone in off the street. 6. Report crimes immediately ? Don?t wait to report a crime. The longer you leave it, the worse things can get for you. Mobile phones, for instance, are not the only thing you need to worry about. It?s the fact that thieves can start making expensive calls from the phone. These are just a few ideas. The main thing is to be alert, take it seriously, and don?t let ease trump security. The security of this campus is everyone?s job so help us, help you, stay safe out there. -- Bryan E. Denny M.S. For those of you who are not aware, the softball team was travelling back to Gainesville, TX from a game against Southern Nazarene University when a tractor trailer semi crossed the median and struck them virtually head on. The crash resulted in 4 fatalities and many injuries. As fellow faculty, staff, athletes and students I know that many of you have them in your thoughts and prayers. With that in mind, tonight at 7:45pm there will be a candle light vigil in the Amphitheatre for the NCTC softball team in remembrance of the four that were lost, as well as for prayer for those that are affected by this tragedy. I know this is last minute, but we ask that you join us to honor and support the NCTC softball team. NCTC softball is not only near and dear to my heart, as I both played and coached against them the past four years and am very close with the coaches, but they are also special to our softball team here at Eastern. Eastern softball plays against NCTC multiple times per year and many of our players knew their players on a personal level so please keep our ladies in your prayers as well. I want to let you know that we are not charging you again or anything but we use it to be able to better plan our meals and make sure that we have enough prepared or that we don't overcook and have waste. With our new system we can tell when the students come in opposed to just guessing. It gives us an update every 15 minutes. Please bring them so we can better serve you. Each year, we publish and distribute a report on crime statistics for the past 3 years(2011-2013). In compliance with the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, we publish statistics for certain crimes that occurred on campus or non-campus property in the past 3 years. The new report can be reviewed at: http://ope.ed.gov/security and highlights have been provided in the attached Annual Security Report (ASR) which will also be made available on our website at: http://www.eosc.edu/student_campus_life/campus_police.aspx The EOSC Police Department prepares this report to comply with the Clery Act. This report is prepared in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies in the area, Housing and Student Development, additional security authorities and other departments which may have information necessary to comply with the Clery Act. Each entity provides updated information on their educational efforts and programs to comply with the Act. Campus crime, arrests and referral statistics include those reported to the Campus Police, designated campus officials (including but not limited to campus security authorities), and local law enforcement agencies. Crime statistics are collected from public property immediately adjacent to campus and all off campus locations either owned or controlled by the college. Copies of this report may be obtained at Student Services, Student Center Room 208. In accordance with the guidelines established by Eastern Oklahoma State College, and pursuant to the federal law 34 CFR 668.49(b), all currently enrolled students, campus employees and all prospective students and prospective employees of Eastern Oklahoma State College are entitled to request and receive a copy of the Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report. The report contains statistics about the number of fires in on-campus housing, the cause of each fire, the number of injuries and deaths, and the value of property damaged. The report also includes a description of fire systems, the number of fire drills, evacuation procedures, education and training programs, future plans for fire safety improvements, and the institutions policies on appliances, smoking, open flames, and other potential hazards. Emergency notifications: Eastern?s Campus Police will notify learners, staff, and faculty of potential threats and emergencies through various forms of communication, including emails, RAVE Alert notifications, or other media as appropriate. Notifications will be disseminated, without delay, unless issuing a notification may compromise efforts to assist a victim, or to contain, respond to, or otherwise mitigate the emergency. -- Bryan E.
