Message-ID: <002301d03fc2$d1b6fc60$7524f520$@eosc.edu> Good Morning! For all of those who have not heard, we are hosting students from Denmark again this spring! These students will visit for a week, on campus, and experience what college here is like. Therefore, we are looking for students who are interested in being a host for a Denmark student. You would hang out with them, take them to activities, and they would go to class with you for a couple days. The Honors students who served as "Den-Pals" last year enjoyed this experience and created friendships with their Denmark student. We would like to make this opportunity available to all Eastern students this year! If you are interested, or have questions, please come by and see me in the Student Center, office 211! Also, attached is an application and information sheet. If you want to be a Den-Pal, please fill the application out and return it to me as soon as possible. Lastly, if you are interested in being on the committee to finalize plans and arrangements for the Denmark student visit, please see me! No student will get paid until all paperwork has been completed and submitted. If a student worked last fall the student still must complete a new authorization form this spring. An e-mail will be sent to each supervisor letting them know when it is okay for the student to begin work. Until the e-mail is received no student is to begin work. It is vital (and the law) that this procedure is followed. If you have any questions you are welcome to inquire of me or the Human Resources office. Thank you for your cooperation. Winner of the TONY and the Drama Desk Awards for Best Book,?The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee?has charmed audiences across the country with its effortless wit and humor. Featuring a fast-paced wildly funny and touching book by Rachel Sheinkin and a truly fresh and vibrant score by William Finn, this bee is one unforgettable experience. An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.? Leadership Message-ID: <003501d04af1$b6d01b90$247052b0$@eosc.edu> Hello! We are just under one month out from the deadline to apply to the 2015 N.E.W (National Education for Women's) Leadership Institute. We have already begun to received applications but we still need your help to reach out to the undergraduate women leaders on your campus. The N.E.W. Leadership Institute is a five day-intensive, non-partisan institute that emphasizes women's leadership and civic engagement as the premiere residential program providing undergraduate college women the knowledge and skills to become effective leaders in public service and elective office. The institute will be held on the University of Oklahoma's Norman Campus May 15-19. The program annually selects 30-35 outstanding undergraduate women from across the state of Oklahoma, so it is a very competitive program. It also allows participants to build connections with other outstanding campus leaders throughout the state as well as the current top women leaders throughout the state of Oklahoma. N.E.W. Leadership is also completely supported by foundations, corporations, and individual donors; so, the institute is free for the selected participants! The application can be found on our website and the deadline to apply is March 13th. I can assure you that this institute will be beneficial for the undergraduate leaders on your campus. Our institute gives participating students the opportunity to network not only with other collegiate women leaders across the state, but with women who currently lead the state of Oklahoma in various governmental and non-profit capacities. Our students have received internships, scholarships, and career opportunities because of their involvement in the program. A digital copy of our brochure is attached to this email for you to distribute to students that would benefit from this opportunity. If you would like a few hard copies of the brochure please email me with a mailing address. In addition, I am happy to come to your campus to speak about the institute and/or arrange for a former graduate from your college to speak. If you or your students have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time and support in advance! Lauren _____ Lauren Schueler, M.Ed. | Assistant Director, N.E.W. With that in mind we try to make sure that students, faculty and staff at Eastern are aware of the actions they should take should an emergency situation occur. One such situation which is of considerable importance where training is concerned is that of an active shooter threat. The campus police and building monitors train often with regards to their responsibilities during this type of threat. Attached in this month?s safety email is a video, prepared by the City of Houston in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, which involves instruction to others and provides direction as to the options you have in an active shooter scenario. This six minute video could very well save your life and I can therefore not stress enough the importance of this type of education for the public. I encourage each and every one of you to take just these few minutes and watch the video so that we can all be better prepared in the event that such a tragic situation should ever unfold on one of our campuses. Thank you for your time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VcSwejU2D0 In addition to this email, a RAVE Alert test will be conducted later this afternoon. -- Bryan E. Denny M.S.
