[Eoscstudents] Labor Day Safety Tips

All,
This is Eastern's first long holiday weekend for this Fall 2022 semester.
Please take a few moments to go over the safety tips below.  Be Safe, Have
Fun, and Return Alive and Safe!

Outdoor Activities

Keep an eye on children around any open flames and give your pit the
once-over before starting the fire! (A leaky propane hose could ruin your
entire weekend)



Weather and Beverages

Stay hydrated, grab a few extra water bottles if you are spending time in
the hot sun.  Also, be sure to protect your skin from UV rays.

Buckle Up

Seat belts save lives and help prevent injuries. Also, make sure kids are
in the proper car or booster seats.



Plan Ahead and Allow Extra Travel Time

With more people on the roads, often driving in unfamiliar territory, the
potential for a traffic crash increases.



Observe Speed Limits

Stay focused & aware of changing traffic patterns caused by construction.
Be cautious of construction workers.



Avoid distracted driving

Put the phone down, never text while driving.  Be careful when eating on
the run,  secure pets in the back of the car.



Have a Plan for Roadside Assistance

Have the number for your insurer or roadside assistance ready. Some towing
companies take advantage of drivers after an accident.



Update Your Proof of Insurance

Make sure to replace any expired insurance identification cards.



Drink Responsibly

With the increase in parties and BBQs, tack on Drunk Driving to the list.
Every 24 minutes someone is killed in a drunk driving crash.  Make a plan
of travel (i.e., have a designated driver, call a friend, stay where you
are, or call an uber). If boating, remember the same applies to drinking
and boating is illegal.
