This has been a short and sweet but busy week. It sounds like the mass
confusion that had taken over the bottom floor of the Library building
with all the offices moving is coming under control somewhat, now that
the offices are temporarily relocated into Choctaw Hall. I haven't
ventured over there yet to see for myself, but I'll have to sometime
today as I have bills to be paid and need to get some change and check
our mail. I'm glad Linda Enis sent out a list of "who's on first" over
there. I've printed that off and will definitely be taking it with
me. I've only been in that building a couple of times, so I'll
definitely need a "map". <br>
<br>
Congratulations go out to Bookstore Manager Ali Martinez, who recently
achieved a goal many people never do. She earned her Bachelors
degree! She is now the proud and knowledgeable recipient of a Bachelor
in Science degree from Southeastern in Durant, with a major in
Psychology. It's wonderful that the technology is in place so that
students can do this entirely on line, as Ali did, and not have to move
to a bigger college town, or drive back and forth every day. I know
she struggled to find time to do this amid her other activities,
working full time as our Bookstore Manager, helping with PAWS,
attending church, and still having time for her family and her beloved
dogs.<br>
<br>
PAWS will be having a meeting this evening at 6:00 in the Latimer
County Public Library. This is actually our May meeting which was
postponed last week in order to allow us to hold an adoption day to
find homes for several pound dogs, as the pound was becoming
overcrowded, and sadly, when this happens, sometimes the decision is
made to have the dogs killed. We wanted to avoid this if at all
possible, so decided to postpone our May meeting until June 2 in order
to have the adoption day, which turned out very successfully, allowing
several wonderful dogs to find homes with families and not have to be
returned to the pound and an uncertain future.<br>
<br>
I'm happy to report that tomorrow my mother, Lillie Hayes, will
celebrate her 94th birthday! Born in 1917, she's certainly seen a lot
of changes in her lifetime. Like many Okies, she resided in California
for a while in order to find employment, but moved back home many years
ago and has lived in Oklahoma (Bengal and Wilburton) for the majority
of her life. She still has a way to go to catch up with her mother who
lived to be 99 years and 1 month, and her older sister, who recently
passed away at the ripe old age of 108!<br>
