could take a little while to digest its Thanksgiving feast: Sprint's
Xohm network. The WiMAX network operator officially
gobbled up Sprint's Xohm assets and finally pocketed the $3.2 billion
investment from Comcast, Time Warner, Bright House Networks, Intel and
Google. Despite the size of its meal, Clearwire has no time
for napping, CEO Ben Wolff hosted a brief media call on Monday
to clear up a few issues surrounding the new Clearwire. Here
are the highlights:</span></font><font size=1 face=Arial><span
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial'><o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

after taking $3.2 billion from investors, Clearwire will have a funding gap
of $2.6 billion, which will need to be obtained through additional equity
and debt," Yankee Group's Chief Strategy Officer Berge Ayvazian
said. "I believe this investment should allow Clearwire to fund
the current phase of the build out through yearend 2011, but additional
capital will be needed to complete the network in 2011-2014. The new
Clearwire needs to be debt-worthy to secure additional investments to
bridge that gap in the middle of a global financial crisis with even worse
conditions for raising new funding. "</span></font><font size=1

advanced antenna technology such as MIMO), beam forming and beam steering.

light to the much delayed auction of 3G and WiMAX licenses, and the
process should start this week and be completed by late February. The
process will be overseen by NM Rothschild and Sons and is likely to spark
a wave of capex investment across the subcontinent, and almost certainly
create the largest WiMAX market in the world within two years.<br>
<br>
The deadline for applications is December 31, and the WiMAX auction will
begin on January 16 2009, and the 3G sale on February 9, a slight change
from the previous plan to conduct both sales simultaneously. The
Department of Telecom (DoT) is planning to auction five blocks of
spectrum for 3G and four for WiMAX in each telecoms region or 'circle'.
At least two CDMA operators will be able to offer 3G services in each
license area, a relief to this community, which was concerned it would be
excluded or that its licenses would be awarded later than those to GSM operators.
Spectrum for EV-DO data services will be auctioned in the 450MHz and
800MHz bands, and eventually in the 1.9GHz band. <br>

the deal. The companies expect to finalize the details by year
end, which would then bring the in the $3.2B infusion of

Although the two key entitities have had to operate as separately as
possible for legal reasons until the merger was official, many of their
joint strategies have become clear, and in addition to Xohm's launch
market in Baltimore, construction is well underway in six other
territories: Washington DC, Chicago, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland, Oregon
and Grand Rapids, Michigan (the last of these subject to settling a legal
dispute with Sprint affiliate iPCS, currently on hold but still brewing).

"vision" greatly depend on the proliferation of WiMAX chipsets
into battery operated mobile devices, including handsets, ultra mobile
PCs and a variety of consumer electronic devices. One gating factor
had been the power consumption of the WiMAX subsystem which puts a drain
on batteries. The WiMAX chipset ecosystem has made great strides in
this area. But have they met the "low power bar"
necessary for wide adoption of WiMAX into mobile devices? <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font size=1 face=Arial><span style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial'>Trendsmedia,
the organizers of the WiMAX World 2008 show, which took place in <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Chicago</st1:City>, <st1:country-region

October 2nd 2008 wanted to find out. WiMAX20/20, a leading WiMAX
consultancy was recruited to organize the WiMAX Live - Low Power CPE
Chipset Shootout. A first in the WiMAX industry, this session gave
an opportunity to WiMAX chipset vendors to show live measurements of their
low power solutions and explain how they are meeting the low power
challenge. Among the merchant chipset vendors that were invited to
the shootout were Altair, Beceem, Comsys, GCT, Intel, NextWave, Runcom,
