We agreed that all faculty members would serve as resource persons for reviewing and commenting on the document and that written comments would be provided to me no later than November 1, 2013. We also agreed that all faculty members should come prepared to vote on the document, if no significant changes are proposed. Thank you in advance for your comments. As we all anticipated, it would have been unusual for the pioneer document to swing through on first round. Therefore, the committee under your leadership should be commendable for the remarks that they rendered to address the issues of the faculty. That, is what a General faculty meeting is supposed to be in protection of our academic and democratic values! #2. There is a concern on my side: As I observed, there are a group of faculty who feel they have nothing to lose by voting down this document regardless of its merit it holds. If it is turning out that they are constantly the majority amongst us, we probably never get a majority vote. What is our alternative? Another alternative, is to utilize tools of the current University Senate which represent University wide and ultimately it's a voice of the University. Any other suggestions? while I still have confidence in my faculty colleagues, there usually comes a time when a decision has got be made by few members of the same group for the benefit of the majority; especially being a pioneer document ! My five cent idea! Dr. Edward Khiwa, committee member.
