They will be having a general talk in Hamilton Hall Room 206 for 1:00PM-2:00PM. The main topic of their visit is to talk about curriculum improvement and reform in the field of computational science and Engineering (Attached are the Education Flyer and an XSEDE general flyer). As well as XSEDE Education Program. Please find below both Dr. Steven Gordon and Mrs. Linda Akli bios. Please bring your students. ----------------------- Linda Akli is the Assistant Director of Training Education and Outreach at SURA and the XSEDE lead for the Under-Represented Community Engagement program. She is responsible for developing and delivering programs to broaden use of High Performance Computing and other advanced technologies in research and education. Previously she was employed at the American Association for the Advancement of Science where she led the development of the BEN Collaborative, a digital library for biological sciences education, and managed several student programs aimed at increasing participation in STEM including the Packard Graduate Scholars and the Merck-AAAS Undergraduate Science Research Program. Ms. Akli's began her career in computer communications systems engineering. Her communication systems projects include international electronic messaging and global directory standards development, technical contributions to federal electronic commerce programs, and congressional committee policy input on defense communications. Ms. Akli is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Steven Gordon is the Senior Education Specialist at the Ohio Supercomputer Center and Professor Emeritus in City and Regional Planning at The Ohio State University. He has also served as the Interim Executive Director of OSC for three years and the Senior Director of Education and Client Services. Currently, Dr. Gordon is the lead for the education program of the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) program funded by the National Science Foundation and the manager of the Blue Waters Graduate Fellowship Program. At OSC, Dr. Gordon has led the efforts to start computational science education programs at a number of Ohio institutions. For the XSEDE project, he is working with universities nationwide to assist them in starting computational science education programs by providing program models, shared materials, and professional development activities for faculty. It is there. You have to scroll down to the letter I forwarded from Dr. Montgomery's office. I just took the survey and, like all surveys, there are things I'd change, but it is interesting and I encourage all LU faculty to take it. If you have problems, please contact me.
