Kennedy Learning over Lunch Wednesday, February 21st at 12:00 noon Allied Health Building, Room 103 or Adobe Connect ** Teaching Unprepared Students ------------------------------------------------------------ Book Discussion - Part II ** Feel free to bring your lunch to eat while we discuss chapters of Kathleen Gabriel's book, Teaching Unprepared Students. Conversations will center around these items: ------------------------------------------------------------ * How’s attendance? Are students falling off already? * What’s your preferred learning style? Don’t know? Take one or more of the online learning style inventories listed in chapter 5. Let’s talk about it. * How do we move from the teacher-centered lecture to the type of student engagement Gabriel proposes in chapter 6? What does “thoughtful, intentional mixing of students” (p. 84) look like in the classroom? * How do we deal with RAD (Resistance, Avoidance, Denial) on the part of students when we aren’t aware what’s happening? * What are some ways to assess prior knowledge without making it look like a test? ** I’m looking forward to another engaging session!
