<p class="MsoNormal">I have pondered this for years and here are some of the reasons why I don’t make a big deal when they go off the board:<o:p></o:p></p>
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">I honestly expect my board members to continue on their committee (and most do), which is where the real work gets done;<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">Giving the big going away deal might make them feel as if they are being dismissed, or they have done enough … and I still want to have them involved;<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">We work hard for the dollars we have in our budget and we really weigh out the spending;<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">I do send a hand written thank you card, which I am very sincere in what I say (not a cookie cutter card);<o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0in;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">Giving them thank yous and shows of appreciation (not costly ones) throughout their tenure is more important than having a party when they leave.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>
