The first-gen question is optional.    If an applicant says yes to the felony conviction, we request information about the offense, current status (probation, etc.), and recommendation letters.    Their application is then reviewed by an admission committee made up of personnel from Admissions, Registrar's Office, and Student Affairs.

I have a couple of questions regarding applications for admission:
Do any of you ask a question about first-generation status?  If so, would you be willing to share the verbiage and is it an optional question?
Do you ask if the applicant has been convicted of a felony?  If so, would you share your verbiage and process?
