[Oacrao-l] Awarding Degrees

Holly,
At NOC, I run a report each semester, by advisor, and ask the advisor to contact each advisee for enrollment or graduation. They are to report their findings back to me, their division chair, and the VP for Academic Affairs. Once the semester is complete, I run another report, by advisor, of all students who have earned 60 hours and have not applied for graduation. We do a degree audit and then the advisor, retention specialist, or myself personally call each person to obtain permission to award the degree or to advise on any missed requirements. It is usually only 10 or so students. We ask for permission to award the degree because there are a few, very few, private scholarships that will only pay for 1 degree. I have only encountered that one time, but I would not want to inadvertently hurt a student. I have wrestled with the opt-in/opt-out statement, but the scholarship issue gives me pause for concern.
Happy Monday!
Rick

Happy Friday everyone!

Do any of you automatically post degrees or certificates on the transcript once they are earned? Do any of you have a statement on your application that lets them opt-in or opt-out of receiving their degree/certificate automatically? If so, how is that statement worded on your application or how do you address this if you do so in a different place? We will still have them complete an application for graduation if they want their diploma so we have the information we need for that aspect but were wondering how other schools handle this.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Sincerely,
