Only spring semester funds can be claimed for these additional students. The EFC cutoff remains 1500. Due to state offices and many institutions being closed as a result of the weather last week, we were unable to meet our scheduled deadline of December 1 for providing this information to you. We regret any inconvenience the delay may have caused. Pre-populated Award Claim Forms generated by OTAG for spring will include: * students who were awarded in fall 2006 * students who were awarded and subsequently cancelled, unless they were cancelled due to a change in EFC greater than the 1500 awarding cutoff * students with award potential who were not awarded in fall but could be awarded in spring -- this group includes students with FAFSA receipt dates from 1-1-06 through 6-7-06 As was the case last year, students included in an Excel pre-populated Award Claim Form for spring will be sorted by Awarded, Cancelled, and Pending status, and this status will be displayed in Column J. On the FTP Award Claim Form the status will be displayed in Field #11, Position 71. As in fall Award Claim Form reporting, institutions using the pre-populated will delete information for students who should not be paid in spring (even if they were paid in fall) and edit the information as appropriate for the students to be paid in spring. More detailed instructions will accompany the spring pre-populated or blank template reports. If you would like to receive a "work copy" pre-populated Award Claim Form to assist you in identifying additional students who can be awarded in spring, please send a request to reports@otag.org. Please contact our office at 405.225.9456 or toll free 877.662.6231 or send e-mail to reports@otag.org if you have questions or require more information regarding spring OTAG awarding and disbursement processes. Because our Spring 2007 semester does not begin until Tuesday, January 16, 2007, our Stafford Loan disbursement for Spring 2007 is scheduled for Wednesday, January 3, 2007. Please cease making EFT deposits after Thursday, December 21 2006. EFT deposits sent on Thursday, Dec 21 will be posted that night and exceptions reviewed on Friday, Dec 22. If deposits are sent after Dec 21, the systems won't be active and personnel won't be here to process them and meet the 3 day rule. Please resume sending EFT data & deposits on Tuesday, January 2, 2007. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 is our major Spring 2007 disbursement date and will be our largest EFT transmission of the year. We will begin disbursing Spring 2007 aid on Monday, January 8, 2007. The later start date of our Spring 2007 semester means that our students won't be able to get their Spring 2007 aid disbursements the day we reopen as they are used to doing, they'll have to wait another week. So, if our borrowers call you to check which day you're going to send the Spring 07 money, we'd appreciate any help you can give to remind them of the additional week. If you get confused about the dates or have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me at home during the break at 405-364-1592 or on my cell at 405-203-1406. If you disburse through the ELM NDN, I have already arranged "snoozing" our disbursements directly with the NDN. And, just in case you need to listen to something besides Mariah Carey singing "All I Want for Christmas is You" every 10 minutes, here's a song (and a singer) I just love that has roots in Oklahoma: http://www.minibite.com/christmas/hippo.htm I found this information online: Great song titles aren't all that common, more's the pity, but here's one that's just top-notch. Gayla Peevey, according to legend, was a regional child star of the Oklahoma City area, and this 1953 hit was recorded as a fund-raiser to bring the city zoo a hippo. The song raised $3,000 and the hippo was procured. Unfortunately, Matilda, the hippo, was scheduled to be transferred to Walt Disney World but died instead in March 1998. The song is campy as all get-out, but it never fails to raise eyebrows and perk up ears upon first hearing. Gayla Peevey herself writes in to add: "The record was released nationally by Columbia Records and because the Oklahoma City Zoo needed a hippo at the time, the song gave them the idea of putting together a major media blitz asking kids to send in nickels and dimes to raise money to buy Gayla a hippopotamus for Christmas. Matilda, a baby hippo, was presented to me, and I donated her to the zoo. In a roundabout way the song indeed helped the zoo acquire a hippo, but the song was not recorded for that purpose."
