position is 12  months, 1.00 FTE, and reports to the Director of Financial Aid

Information  Montana State University is a land-grant residential  
institution with affiliated campuses in Billings, Great Falls and Havre.  Enrollment 
exceeds 12,000 students. MSU is located in Bozeman, Montana,  ninety miles north 
of Yellowstone National Park.  
The Office of Financial Aid Services, comprised of 17 staff members,  assists 
students in financing their educational expenses through a variety  of 
federal, state, private and institutional loan, grant, scholarship, fee  waiver and 
work study programs. Our mission is to provide financial  assistance to enable 
students to achieve their postsecondary educational  goals, and to educate 
and inform students and families regarding financial  aid programs through 
quality consumer information and services.  
The Assistant Director of Grants and Scholarships, a Montana University  
System contract professional appointment, has two program assistants  reporting to 
it and acts on behalf of the Director in her absence.      Duties and
Responsibilities   The position is responsible for the management of the  
Grant, Scholarship and Fee Waivers programs. The position is responsible  for the 
following: Grants, scholarship and fee waiver administration,  awarding, 
compliance, policies and procedures, funds management, packaging  philosophy, and 
reporting. Advise students, parents, staff and public on  financial aid 
issues. Assist the Director in establishing and implementing  office goals, 
priorities, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain  effective working 
relationships with other MSU offices, Colleges and  Departments, the Foundation, and 
other MSU campus' financial aid staff.  Supervises two program assistants, 
participates in outreach and  presentations, and performs other related duties as 
required to meet the  goals of the office.     Required
Qualifications      1.     Bachelor's Degree and minimum of three years of 
progressively  responsible experience within a college financial aid office or 
an  equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.      2. 
Extensive working knowledge of the principals and purposes of  financial aid 
programs.      3. Demonstrated experience exercising sound judgment in decision  
making and interpreting, applying and ensuring compliance with rules  and 
regulations.      4. Effective supervisory, management and leadership skills.      5. 
Demonstrated competence with computer software applications. MS  Office 
knowledge preferred.      6. Demonstrated experience organizing and prioritizing 
large  volumes of detailed work, meeting deadlines and adapting to changing  
priorities.      7. Fiscal management and record keeping experience.      Preferred
Qualifications      1.     Extensive applied knowledge of the Banner 
Financial Aid Module  operating system.      2. Experience with SQL, Excel and Access 
databases.      3. Experience with managing university scholarship or grant  
programs.     The Successful
Candidate Will   Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective  
working relationships with various constituencies; possess excellent  
communication skills in verbal and written form; excellent analytical and  problem 
solving skills and public speaking skills. The successful  candidate will represent 
Financial Aid Services to others in a  professional, courteous manner; have a 
commitment to student success; be  willing to take a hands on approach 
fulfilling the responsibilities of the  position; have excellent interpersonal 
skills; work well independently;  have a strong work ethic; have the ability to 
foster a collaborative,  team-oriented environment.     Application
