Please forward this to any of your colleagues who are in need of signing up for the electronic mailing list. They can go to http://oasfaa.ou.edu/oasfaa_l.cfm and find the instructions there. * There was some concern about the productivity of the sector meetings. That time is meant to be used as an open forum to discuss any and all issues that concern your particular type of school. These are very much a participant-driven sessions, so for the Spring conference, come prepared with topics you would like to see addressed. If you do not feel comfortable speaking to the group, feel free to meet with the moderator of that particular session beforehand so they can present the issue to the attendees. * Also, if you did not have the chance to complete a conference evaluation and would like to suggest session topics for future conferences, please contact any of the members of the Program Committee. The Program Committee is already thinking about April's conference, so we would love to hear your suggestions. He has never received an ACG because last year (actually after the Fall 2006 when he progressed to sophomore status) he was not Pell elig. His gpa at that point was 3.13. It is still over a 3.0 and he his now Pell elig. Can I give him an ACG this semester? The only thing that is stopping me is in some of the training materials we've received, it states that gpa is only checked one time for elig. Since his gpa was okay when he reached sophomore status, is it okay to pay him now that he is Pell elig? Okay, I'll stop rambling.. Let me know what you think. Thanks!!! NASFAA is joining other organizations in activating a grassroots effort to urge members of the House to override the veto. The House vote is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, so immediate action is required. In previous votes on the bill the House has come up just short of the two-thirds majority needed to overturn a veto. It is especially important for members with a Representative who voted against the bill to take action. Please contact these Representatives and urge them to change their vote and support this important increase in student aid funding. The bill increases the maximum Pell Grant to $4,925 and increases funding for TRIO and GEARUP. It also restores funding for financial aid programs that President Bush recommended eliminating in his 2008 budget. If the House fails to override the veto, then cuts to Pell grants and possibly other student aid programs are expected. NASFAA thanks all its members for their hard work to support increases in student aid funding for needy students. One last push is necessary to achieve this goal. I would like your philosophy/practice on professional judgment as it relates to income reduction on a student's FAFSA. From the documentation I have read and trainings I have attended, whether or not you consider an income reduction should be based on whether the reason for the lower income was due to "an action outside the control of the individual" or a personal choice. This covers those that have been terminated from employment, illness, death, etc. I am curious as to your practice (and/or policy) if a student and/or parent chooses to leave a job for various reasons or a student leaves a higher paying job to attend school. URL: http://lists.onenet.net/pipermail/oasfaa/attachments/20071121/260cf903/attachment.html From sjoyner at otag.org Wed Nov 28 08:49:15 2007 From: sjoyner at otag.org (Joyner, Shiela) Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 08:49:15 -0600 Subject: [Oasfaa] OTAG Fall Deadlines Message-ID: <3B3640988539EC47A50B689936AF65C10B1B92@postman2.osrhe.edu> As a reminder for campus staff responsible for OTAG disbursements and reporting, a document that reflects the OTAG Timelines and Procedures for 2007-2008 is attached. This information was first provided to institutions on June 28, 2007, and we followed up with a reminder on September 11, 2007, regarding upcoming fall semester deadlines. All OTAG-program related announcements are made on the OASFAA list serv, and we are trusting that institutional staff who need this information are subscribers to this list. The deadline for submitting fall 2007 Award Claim Forms was November 9. Exceptions to this deadline that would merit consideration at this time are those that are based on extraordinary circumstances for which the institution's president submits a request for Chancellor Johnson's approval. While it is not our intention to deny eligible students, it is expected that being the end of the semester, any disbursements not already requested would be the result of unavoidable or extraordinary circumstances either on the part of the student or the institution. If you have identified unpaid students for fall, please do bring them to our attention. Please also be reminded that the established and previously announced deadline for finalizing outstanding fall 2007 disbursements is November 30. If your institution submitted an award claim in early November, we trust that you did so with the understanding that the timing of your submission would not provide an automatic extension to this deadline to allow your institution the normal 30-day time frame for disbursing the funds. OSRHE is scheduled to announce any changes in spring 2008 awarding criteria by December 5. Our ability to meet this date commitment is dependent in part on cooperation by ALL institutions in promptly disbursing their remaining OTAG funds and finalizing their disbursement reporting. This will assist us in gathering the information we need to determine available funds spring 2008 awarding, which affects students and institutions statewide. We will appreciate understanding and cooperation by all institutions. Please contact me if you have questions or require further information. <<2007-2008 OTAG Timelines & Procedures.doc>> *********************** Shiela Joyner, Director Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education P. Based on an OTAG policy change approved recently by the State Regents, we will have the option of not only extending the FAFSA receipt date cutoff beyond 4/30/07 but also extending the EFC cutoff above 1500. The revised awarding schedule approved by the State Regents at their October 2007 meeting is attached for your information. To clarify, these additional awards will be for the Spring 2008 semester only and will not include funding for the fall 2007 semester. As of today, it appears that available funds will be in the neighborhood of $1.8 million which will accommodate an estimated 3,600 students for single-semester awards. Attached is a quick survey requesting input from participating institutions for our use in deciding the appropriate approach for expanding the OTAG awards pool for Spring 2008. Please take a few minutes to complete and submit your completed survey to the OTAG office by either e-mailing it to reports at otag.org or faxing it to 405.225.9392. Since we are committed to announcing a decision regarding Spring 2008 awards by December 5, we are asking for your completed surveys no later than close of business on Friday, November 30. Please contact our office at 405.225.9456 or toll free 877.662.6231 or send e-mail to reports at otag.org if you have questions or require more information regarding the attached award payment schedule or survey. <<2007_AWD_PAY_SCHED_FLAT RATE_EFC_FINAL_1007.doc>> <> *********************** Shiela Joyner, Director Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education P.
