Hi, all,
Just wanted to let you know that the email on our campus is not working
properly right now. So, if you sent me an email recently and I did not
respond, it's because I didn't receive your email. Some emails are
coming through and some are not.
The email gurus are supposed to be here on Thursday to fix our system,
so I know it will be down on Thursday afternoon and maybe Friday.
My phone number is (405) 273-7493, ext. 212 if you need to tell me
something important before next Monday.
Thanks,
Lynell Armstrong

Message-ID:
What: Free Financial Aid Support Staff Training
When: Friday, March 14th Registration 8:30- 9:00, Training 9:00- 12:00,
Lunch 12:00- 12:45, Training 12:45- 4:00.
Where: Francis Tuttle Technology Center, Rockwell Campus, Campus Center
(Bldg#1), Room 1330 http://www.francistuttle.com/about/address/campus/
Who: Steve Morgan, professional motivational speaker.
Steve is a high energy guy with an enthusiastic presentation style (he
is a southern version of Robin Williams). You will not be bored! This
will be an exciting training opportunity for all types of support staff.
The training is not about the nuts and bolts of financial aid though.
You will not hear the words FAFSA, verification, Smart Grant, student
loan, overaward, or satisfactory academic progress! Rather, you'll hear
about dealing with constant change, difficult customers and challenging
office dynamics. All will leave energized and motivated to be a better
team player focused on delivering exceptional customer service. So, how
can you say no to free professional training with lunch included? The
only thing you have to do is make the effort to be there. I guarantee
you that no one will be disappointed.
Because there is no cost, it will not be necessary to pre-register for
the training. However, since lunch will be provided, I need your help
with an accurate count so we can be on target for lunch. Therefore, as
you have so graciously done in the past, would you please simply reply
to this email and confirm how many you anticipate will be coming from
your office? Based on the preliminary numbers I received, the room will
be able to accommodate everyone who wishes to come. Space will not be an
issue. So, you are not locked in to your original estimates. Send as
many support staff as you want! If you have questions about anything I
might have overlooked, please let me know and I'll reply promptly. See
you on the 14th!
Larry

All,
The OASFAA Program Committee would like to announce Operation Backpack as the Spring collection drive for our service project, Citizens Caring for Children. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the organization's work, "Citizens Caring for Children breaks the cycle of abuse and neglect for Oklahoma foster children by addressing their material, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs ... because every child deserves the chance for a better life. Through our programs we promote self-worth, self-esteem and develop character to give HOPE, CHANGE LIVES and BUILD FUTURES."
Our hope is to provide socks, underwear, and backpacks for some of the school-aged children in Oklahoma foster care. Using the Fall 2007 conference registration lists, we have divided the membership into 4 teams. Please see the summary to see where your organization falls. If your organization has inadvertently been left off the list, please let me know immediately so this can be remedied. We would love to have participation from your entire office's staff, so even those who cannot attend the conference are encouraged to participate.
Team captains will serve to help set a team goal and encourage and motivate their team members. Team captains are Michelle Howard of Sallie Mae, Melissa Moody of BancFirst, Monique Jackson of IBC, and Tricia Johnson of Wells Fargo. Collection will be done at the conference and the tallies and the winning team will be announced at Thursday's lunch. There are many convenient shopping opportunities near the Reed Center, so last minute shoppers, never fear!
Should you have questions, don't hesitate to either contact your team captain or any one of the members of the Program Committee:

Hello everyone,
I know many of you have been asking about the conference agenda and
registration so I want to give you an update.
Thanks to the hard work of the Program committee the agenda is almost
finalized. I have attached a copy of the tentative agenda so you can
review it. We have an excellent variety of sessions with relevant topics
on issues we all need to be aware of and address.
The hotel reservation dead-line of March 2nd is quickly approaching. We
have a reserved conference rate of $89 a night. If you reserve your room
after that date the conference rate may not be honored so please
register before March 2nd if possible.
You can do so from the following link: Sheraton Midwest City Hotel at
the Reed Conference Center
Our conference registration site is not up and running. There are a few
updates to be made but we hope to have that up soon. The conference
registration fee will be $105 for the Spring Conference. I will send
another e-mail out to the list serve when the registration site is up
and running.
If you have any questions please let me know and I will be glad to
assist you in any way possible and thank you for your patience.
Thanks and have a great day.

Reminder of approaching Spring 2008 OTAG deadlines:
Monday, March 3, 2008 -- Each participating institution must have
submitted their INITIAL spring semester award claim. The president or
chief executive officer of any institution not submitting an initial
claim by March 3 will be notified in writing within 5 business days. At
this time we have processed and disbursed at least one award claim for
all but 18 participating institutions. Institutions where no spring
2008 award claims have been processed by OTAG are identified with "fl
only" in the right margin of the attached spreadsheet. If your
institution needs a pre-populated Award Claim Form to assist you in
claiming spring awards for your eligible students, please send a message
to reports at otag.org.
It is important that ALL participating institutions cooperate by
submitting the majority of their Spring 2008 OTAG award claims by the
March 3 initial deadline. Please be mindful that the earlier
institutions complete their Spring 2008 OTAG disbursement activities,
the sooner we can determine and announce if funds will be available to
award in Summer 2008.
Friday, April 11, 2008 -- No further requests for awards or for
increases to individual awards already disbursed for the Spring 2008
semester will be accepted after this date. It is our hope that this
late in the semester, any remaining award claims submitted will be
limited to a few "clean up" requests. After April 11, requests for
exceptions due to extraordinary circumstances may be granted only upon
approval of the Chancellor for Higher Education and must be submitted in
writing to the Chancellor. Please be mindful that waiting until April
11 to submit OTAG award claims does not automatically extend the time
the institution has to complete the disbursement of funds and submit
their final reporting to the OTAG office.
Friday, April 25, 2008 -- Institutions shall notify the State Regents of
any pending refunds that have not already been returned to the State
Regents.
April 30, 2008 -- The State Regents shall announce if any OTAG funds are
available for awards in the summer 2007 semester. If funds are
available, the State Regents shall also announce awarding criteria at
that time.
We appreciate your assistance in delivering OTAG funds to Oklahoma's
eligible students and in adhering to the set deadlines for the
betterment of the delivery process for all participating institutions,
and most especially for the students who benefit from the program.

Message-ID: <3B3640988539EC47A50B689936AF65C11A5A4A@postman2.osrhe.edu>
We have received a number of inquiries regarding OTAG awarding cutoffs
for the 2008-09 award year. With funding for 2008-09 not yet
determined, we can at this time provide only an ESTIMATE based on the
assumption that 2008-09 funding will be comparable to the amount
provided for the OTAG program in 2007-08. Funding decisions are
normally made in late May as the legislative session nears an end, and
we will re-evaluate if necessary once funding has been finalized. With
these cautions in mind, we offer the following 2008-09 packaging
guidelines for OTAG:
* The estimated FAFSA receipt date cutoff for awards is April 30,
2008
* The estimated EFC cutoff for awards is 1700
Additional information regarding the 2008-09 OTAG program will be
provided as it becomes available. Please contact me if you have
questions or if we can be of assistance.

There have been several schools that have been added to the teams for
the Citizens Caring for Children collection drive, so please take a look
at the newest version of the lists. Because we are working with only
the Fall registration lists in capturing email addresses, this means
that the information supplied to the captains may not include everyone
in your offices. Remember, we would love to see participation from
everyone in your office, not just those attending the conference!

Larry

Message-ID: <882D359F86BFD844949AFDC52EDCD42F019187A7@MRED.hsc.net.ou.edu>
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michelle Sherman, Director of the
Family Mental Health Program at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center and
clinical associate professor at the University of Oklahoma Health
Sciences Center, will be our speaker at the Friday morning breakfast at
the Spring OASFAA conference, April 4th, at the Reed Center in Midwest
City.
Her topic for the conference will focus on: Trauma: Prevalence, Impact
on the Family, Opportunities for Growth, and Resources (Special
attention will be paid to the latest research and resources available
for service members from Iraq/Afghanistan & their families.)
Michelle Sherman, Ph.D. is the Director of the Family Mental Health
Program at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center and is a clinical
associate professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences
Center. She has dedicated her career to supporting families dealing with
trauma and mental illness. She has worked extensively with families
dealing with a wide range of traumatic experiences, and she co-chaired
the American Psychological Association's Presidential Task Force on
Military Deployment Services for Youth, Families and Service Members.
Along with her mother, a teacher, she also writes interactive workbooks
for teens whose parent has a mental illness or trauma history.
************************************************************************
************************************************************************
*********************************
Please read below, as Dr. Sherman will have her books available for
purchase at the conference.
Dr. Sherman and her mother wrote two new interactive, award-winning
workbooks for TEENAGERS, namely:
"I'm Not Alone: A Teen's Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has a Mental
Illness"
Focuses on living with a parent who has schizophrenia, bipolar
disorder, or major depression.
"Finding My Way: A Teen's Guide to Living with a Parent Who Has
Experienced Trauma"
Supports teens whose parent has endured some form of trauma - this is
being used by many military families & organizations.
The mission of their work is to empower families who are dealing with
mental illness & trauma by:
* Providing essential information
* Normalizing a variety of reactions
* Encouraging open communication
* Supporting healthy coping
* Offering comfort and hope
The books are highly interactive, containing numerous activities,
open-ended sentences, short stories depicting healthy coping, and
opportunities for reflection.
To see sample pages, please see this website:
www.seedsofhopebooks.com
The books can ONLY be purchased through this secure website.
Although there are a few books on the market written for young children
dealing with parental emotional problems, the literature is almost
barren for teenagers. Thus, these resources fill a major gap in the
available literature. The Shermans hope teenagers find information,
comfort, and hope in working through the interactive books.
Thank you,
Mendy Schmerer
