[Oasfaa] bills introduced for 2008 Oklahoma legislative session

Following are some bills related to financial aid that have been introduced for the 2008 Oklahoma legislative session.  The first critical deadlines are February 21 for Senate bills to pass out of Senate committees and February 28 for House bills to pass out of House committees.  Many of these bills will probably not survive the initial committee process.  Bills that are not passed out of committee by these deadlines are generally considered dead for the session.  We will try to keep you apprised of the bills that move forward.


Bills related to Oklahoma's Promise
*	HB 2228 - would require homeschool students in Oklahoma's Promise to also pass the end-of-instruction tests that public school students must take in high school - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08HB/HB2228_int.rtf 
*	HB 2446 - would exempt any student that had been adopted (from DHS custody, tribal custody, or other court-ordered custody) from being subject to the program income limits - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08HB/HB2446_int.rtf 
*	HB 3102 - would prohibit the OKPromise award from being used for remedial courses - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08HB/HB3102_int.rtf 
*	HB 3295 - would allow students in the 11th or 12th grade, whose custodial parent or guardian did not have custody of the student during the 8th, 9th, or 10th grade, to enroll in the program - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08HB/HB3295_int.rtf 
*	SB 1187 - would increase the initial income limit from $50,000 to $75,000 - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08SB/SB1187_int.rtf 
*	SB 1931 - would allow the child of a certified teacher with at least 6 years of employment with a public school to enroll in the OKPromise program if the student's parents' income was under $100,000; would require the parent to continue teaching for the duration of award - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08SB/SB1931_int.rtf 
*	SB 1988 - would provide an exemption to the requirement that students begin using the OKPromise award within 3-years of graduating high school for students serving in the military - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08SB/SB1988_int.rtf

Academic Scholars Program

Tuition Waivers
*	SB 1639 - would provide a tuition waiver at state system institutions for children of public school employees with at least a 3.0 high school GPA - http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/2007-08SB/SB1639_int.rtf
