CONNERSVILLE - Bobby G. Ratliff, 77, of Brookville, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at his residence. He was born to John M. and Martisia Davies Ratliff in Muncie on May 8, 1931. He attended Muncie Central High School. When Bobby was seventeen years old, he went to work for Ball Corporation in Muncie, laying railroad tracks. Over the years, he moved up to brakeman and then became a railroad engineer. When Ball Corporation closed their railway, Bobby moved into machine repair. He retired at age 60, after more than forty years of service. Bobby served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 until 1956. He was stationed in France, where he put his experience at Ball Corporation to use as a train engineer for the Air Force.



On July 9, 1955, he was married to Barbara Flick of Muncie. They raised their family in Muncie, and moved to the Brookville area in the mid-1980s. Bobby was especially proud of his mission work during his retirement, including trips to Croatia and Guatemala working on church buildings. He also spent a year as a missionary in Venezuela with Barbara, and had volunteered and worked at Highland Lakes Baptist Camp near Martinsville.



Survivors include his wife; four children and their spouses, Donald M. and Julie Ratliff of San Diego, CA, Thomas M. and Sheila Ratliff of Marion, IN, M. Jayne and Kenneth Marlow of Portage, IN, Penny L. and Lee Crossland of Muncie; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and Paul Ratliff; three sisters, Kathryn Adams, Thelma Orr, and Helen McGalliard; one granddaughter, Melissa Hercules.



Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, 312 W. Union St., Liberty, IN with Rev. Robert Edwards of Buena Southern Baptist Church officiating.



Additional funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. at the Northside Assembly of God Church in Muncie.



Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Muncie.



Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 2 p.m. on Friday.



Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to State Convention of Baptists Lottie Moon Offering to support international ministries.
