This year, the auction will be a two-part event: Part 1 : a silent auction beginning during our luncheon on Thursday; Part 2 : an exciting live auction in the afternoon to get your blood pumping! With your help, we can make this a successful auction. Here's how you can help: 1.Gather items for donation to the auction. Some items that have sold well in the past are gift baskets, wine, holiday items, children's items, food items, electronic equipment, artwork, books, soft sided coolers and cooler stands. Try to bring items typical of your region. Items with college logos and gift certificates are typically not good sellers in auctions so steer clear of these items, if possible. 2.Mark you calendar now and plan to attend the auction on December 11th. 3.Bring your checkbook! If you would like to ship your items to me prior to conference time rather than carry them with you while traveling, you may do so. I will keep them safe and transport them to the conference site to save you some trouble. If you plan to bring your item(s) with you, I will need a complete list of those items by no later than Wednesday, December 3rd. My shipping address: Lisa Griffin 10 Turtle Creek Lane Little Rock, AR 72202 Thank you in advance for your support of this important event. This deadline applies to award claims for: * new awards * supplemental payments for individuals already disbursed for fall 2008 (changes from PT to FT, etc.) * reinstatements for students who were previously awarded and disbursed, cancelled, and their fall disbursement need to be reinstated With the fall 2008 semester barely a month from closure, we are trusting that the majority of students who are eligible to receive fall 2008 OTAG funds have already been awarded and disbursed. If that is not the case at your institution, we request that you submit your additional award claims without further delay. Knowing our total cash outlay for fall OTAG disbursements is the key to our ability to predict any changes in spring 2009 awarding cutoffs, and we depend on cooperation from all institutions in order to be in a position to provide this information in time to be helpful. If you are in need of a pre-populated Award Claim Form, send a message to reports at otag.org. Attached for your information is an updated spreadsheet that compares each institutions final 2007-08 OTAG awards disbursed with current 2008-09 award commitments. Fall 2008 Award Reconciliation Reports are available upon request. The reconciliation report lists all students at your institution who have been awarded OTAG for the fall semester. Column H of the report will contain 0 if a student was awarded, disbursed, and cancelled for the fall semester. If you would like to receive a reconciliation report for your institution, please send a message to reports at otag.org. Please contact me if you have questions concerning this deadline and your institution's wrap up of fall semester OTAG awarding and disbursement activities. <> Shiela Joyner Director, Oklahoma Tuition Aid Grant Program Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education PO Box 108850 Oklahoma City, OK 73101-8850 Internet: sjoyner at otag.org Voice: 405.225.9378 or Toll Free 877.662.6231 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Essentially, this means that institutions must have their fall 2008 OTAG disbursements finalized and their completed Disbursement Reports submitted to our office by December 5. A number of institutions submitted award claims too late in the semester to allow for the usual 30-day timeframe for completing the disbursement process. Please be mindful that the December 5 deadline does apply to these late disbursements, and we are trusting that appropriate accommodations are being made on your campuses in order to meet this deadline. All checks for these late claims have been mailed to institutions as of Monday, November 24. Cooperation by all institutions in wrapping up their fall 2008 OTAG disbursements and reporting will be appreciated and is necessary for us to be in a position to announce any changes in OTAG awarding criteria for the spring 2009 semester by our deadline of December 12. As always, we appreciate your assistance in delivering OTAG funds to Oklahoma's financially needy students. (HSC)) Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 13:02:32 -0600 Subject: [Oasfaa] Citizens Caring for Children and the Spring 09 OASFAA conference Message-ID: Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who are working on this Wednesday afternoon! For those of you who may be new to OASFAA, several years ago, the Association decided to adopt Citizens Caring for Children as our service organization. Since then, the Association has found a variety of ways to contribute to all the wonderful things they do and provide to youth in Oklahoma foster care. In August, during their Back to School drive, Citizens Caring for Children was able to help over 800 children in foster care by providing school supplies, backpacks, and clothing for the new school year. If you would like to learn more about them, please visit their site at http://www.citizenscaringforchildren.org/. For those of you who attended the Spring 2008 conference, you may remember that one of our guests was Allen Carson. He is now a minister in Oklahoma, but in his youth, he was in a situation where he was placed in foster care and had only wonderful things to say about the services that he had access to with Citizens Caring for Children and the difference they made in his life. One of the things that he said that seemed to strike a chord with many members is the fact that those in foster care rarely have a bag of any kind in which to place their few belongings. They are often removed from their homes with only the clothing on their backs. If they are able to collect a few precious belongings, they often have to carry them in black trash bags on in their school book bags. "Operation Backpack" was an overwhelming success in the Spring and we were able to donate over 165 backpacks that were full of socks and underwear, not to mention $840 in monetary donations. In gearing up for the Spring 2009 conference, the Program Committee will be facilitating another collection drive. This time, we will be collecting backpacks or duffel bags in which children can place their belongings, sweats, and pajamas. Citizens Caring for Children serves youth of all ages, so remember that not only will Dora the Explorer and Spider-Man be welcomed, but so will items that are geared for teens as well. So, while you are out stimulating the economy by hitting the sales over this long weekend, please keep these items in mind and pick up what you can to help contribute to this worthy cause. As we approach the conference in April, further reminders will be sent out. For now, this seemed a fitting time to start making efforts to assist the youth in foster care in Oklahoma through our contributions to Citizens Caring for Children. Thank you and have a wonderful and safe holiday weekend, Mendy Schmerer Office of Student Financial Aid Financial Aid Coordinator University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center 1106 N.
