From LHollingsworth at osla.org Fri Oct 3 15:51:09 2008 From: LHollingsworth at osla.org (Larry Hollingsworth) Date: Fri, 03 Oct 2008 15:51:09 -0500 Subject: [Oasfaa] OASFAA Fall Decentralized Training Update Message-ID: Hello Friends, One final reminder of our decentralized training which is scheduled for a week from today, Friday, October 10th. If you have not notified me of your plans to attend, please do so ASAP so we can have enough food for lunch. Some people, like Steve Daffer, get kind of cranky if they don't get enough for lunch! One more thing I forget to mention is you might want to bring a three ring binder for the handout materials. Years ago I was sitting next to Don Matthews who used to the Director at SWOSU when I mentioned to him I was having trouble understanding the concept being presented at the training. He looked over at me and said "where is your three ring binder?" I said "what?" He said "you were supposed to bring a three ring binder for the training materials. I brought my binder and I'm having no trouble understanding the materials." So there you have it. Bring a three ringed binder and you will have no trouble at all understanding the materials! A special thanks to Pam and OU for hosting us, to OGSLP for providing the training materials and to OLAC for providing lunch! A quick comment to those not familiar with the OU campus; once you get to the corner of Lindsey (which is one of the exit streets off of I-35) and Elm, you've got it made. For a point of reference, we're only a couple of blocks from the football stadium. The campus map Pam provided is very helpful. For my old eyes, I had to go to the printable version and increase the size, but the streets are marked very clearly. Have a great weekend everyone and drive safely next Friday. See you in Norman! Date: Fri, 03 Oct 2008 16:38:38 -0500 Subject: [Oasfaa] OASFAA Fall Decentralized Training Update In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <107E70C9762E1C4FB5DE8DFA19C0282AB7EEB84CF5@XMAIL5.sooner.net.ou.edu> We're definitely looking forward to everyone coming to Norman next week. In case you're nervous about traffic or parking, remember that we have no classes on Friday, Oct 10 because everyone will be heading to Dallas for the OU-Texas game. You'll have pretty clear sailing because you'll be coming TO Norman instead of going AWAY from Norman. One correction---our parking office can't open the lot north of Dale Hall for us without having to get us all visitor parking passes, which is a logistical pain in the proverbial patootie. So, they've agreed to let us park on levels 2 through 5 of the Elm Avenue Parking Facility, building 16 on the OU map. This parking garage is on Elm Avenue just south of Boyd Street. If you come in to Norman on Lindsey Street, turn North at Elm Avenue and go north past the stop sign at Brooks Street. You'll make a left turn into the parking garage. If you get to the stop light at Boyd and Elm, you've gone too far north. There should be plenty of space for you to park and Nielsen Hall is a short walk south on Elm Avenue---we'll be in the new west end addition to Nielsen Hall which you enter off of the east-west pedestrian walk on Brooks Street. If you're familiar with OU, you might know Nielsen Hall better as the Physics & Astronomy building. Here's the link to the map if you need it. And, if you get REALLY lost and need us to 'guide you in', call my cell phone at 405-203-1406. http://www.ou.edu/discover/discover_home/visit/map.html Pam McConahay Associate Director, University of Oklahoma Financial Aid Services pmcconahay at ou.edu From: oasfaa-bounces at lists.onenet.net [mailto:oasfaa-bounces at lists.onenet.net] On Behalf Of Larry Hollingsworth Sent: Friday, October 03, 2008 3:51 PM To: oasfaa at onenet.net Subject: [Oasfaa] OASFAA Fall Decentralized Training Update Hello Friends, One final reminder of our decentralized training which is scheduled for a week from today, Friday, October 10th. Normally I would announce this award at the fall OASFAA conference, but since we are not having a fall conference this year, I decided to make the announcement over the listserv instead of waiting for it to be announced at the SWASFAA conference. As you may recall, this award was established by SWASFAA in honor of Philo Brasher. Each year OASFAA selects a member who has served OASFAA and made a contribution to the association. OASFAA will pay for Mendy's registration to the annual SWASFAA conference in December, and we will match the $250 scholarship contribution that SWASFAA makes to the general scholarship fund of Mendy's school. Mendy has proven herself to be a valuable asset to OASFAA over the years. This year Mendy is the program chair for the spring conference. Her email address is mendy-schmerer at ouhsc.edu if you want to send her some session ideas or want to volunteer to be on her committee. She also serves as one of the delegates-at-large on the OASFAA board, and she was a co-presenter at decentralized training on Friday. She and David Barron did a great job training all of us. Thanks for all the hard work. Congratulations, Mendy! Andrew Hammontree OASFAA President -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <4901F135.80C9.009B.0@okbu.edu> I just realized that some may be out for the OGSLP training today or for other reasons, so if you are a workaholic and you check your email on the weekends (like me) feel free to email me if you can go. We have about 30 going so far! Ron Hancock said it's not too far from the West End, so maybe TGIFridays, Gators, or something like that, so I'll talk to some of you at the conference and then try to get the reservations in once I have a more concrete number! See you next week! Message-ID: <49046088.80C9.009B.0@okbu.edu> We have reservations at the Cadillac Restaurant in the West End. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the conference hotel. The have reserved a banquet room on the second floor overlooking the West End and they will have a Mexican buffet set-up for us. The price of the buffet will be $12-$15 each. So far, I have 43 people signed up to go with us and the room will accommodate a lot more, so let me know if you want to join us. Final details will be worked out when the hostess calls me on Monday. Hope to see everyone from OASFAA at the dinner! Remember, we will meet in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency at 6:00 on Wednesday evening. The website for the restaurant is at http://www.cadillacbar.com/ .
