OASFAA,
I have no feel for what is happening in Oklahoma, so if those of you who
award a significant number of Veterans are seeing any specific trends, would
you please share those with me.
You'll notice they would like a reply early Thursday at the latest.
Thanks!

Subject: Inquiry about State GI Benefits
The Associated Press is looking into a story about states like Illinois
where many vets are likely to choose to stick with the combination of the
old GI Bill and a state benefit - called the Ill. Veterans Grant - because
it will pay them more than the new Post 9/11 GI Bill.
Please let us know - later today or by early Thursday at the latest - if you
are seeing this in your state.
Thanks

Subject: [Oasfaa] OASFAA Board Meeting Summary
Message-ID: <009401c9fb50$bba5a3c0$32f0eb40$@edu>
OASFAA Members:
As a step towards addressing the concern voiced, at the spring conference
business meeting, regarding communication between the board and the general
membership, I am going to attempt to post a summary following each board
meeting. The summary will report in general terms the actions and issues of
the board.
The incoming 2009-10 OASFAA Board met together with the outgoing board
members in June. The basic purpose of the meeting was to close out the
previous year; to transfer materials and information to incoming members; to
introduce incoming board members and acquaint them with procedures and
duties; and start the planning process for the coming year. There was
little old or new business to discuss at this meeting.
The changes made to the By-Laws at the conference business meeting go into
effect July 1, 2009, and the revised documents will be posted to the website
soon. The changes implemented a fee for OASFAA membership and the board
officially set that amount at $100 per school or corporation for 2009-2010.
The contact person at each school will soon receive an information letter
and an application/invoice by e-mail. An ad hoc committee existing of the
Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect, Past Treasurer and President will establish the
internal processing procedures for this process. As we begin the process,
we will be glad to have your feedback and will address the issues that
improve the system for the members.
June 30, 2009 concluded the fiscal year for OASFAA. As we close the books
for last year, we will also begin work on the budget for the current year.
The next meeting of the board will be July 22, 2009. Please contact your
Delegates-At-Large, Carol Stanfield and/or Dustin Davidson, if you have
questions or issues for the board. Communication is a two way exchange, so
please help do your part.
Have a fun and safe Fourth of July!

Subject: [Oasfaa] acg question
Message-ID: <4A7EC1B7B6484AD79D1E60B5ABD6961C@campus.wosc.edu>
Okay,
This is a test for those of you who were able to attend NASFAA!!! I have a
couple of questions concerning ACG.
1) We have a 2009 graduate who has 30 hours completed (attended concurrent
and also had vo-tech cooperative agreement hours while attending high
school) and a 3.0 gpa. He meets ACG criteria due to OHLAP elig. We
consider students who have 30 hours completed to be 2nd year sophomores.
Does he skip 1st year acg eligibility and for this fall and go to the 2nd
year amount?
2) Student has 79 earned hours and has been accepted to our RN program. She
will be a 1st year nursing student this fall and meets critera for acg. If
I certified her for a loan I would code her as a grade level 1 due to the
fact that she's in her first year of nursing school. Would she also be
elig. for her 1st year acg?? She's never been Pell elig. before now and
hasn't used her 1st year acg to date.
Thanks so much.

Subject: [Oasfaa] Citizens Caring For Children Experience
Message-ID: <3B3640988539EC47A50B689936AF65C11A68DB@postman2.osrhe.edu>
I have an experience to share with the OASFAA membership that I hope
will bring a smile to many.
Yesterday was a day for mentors to bring children to the CCC Resource
Center for back-to-school "shopping." Having recently become a mentor
to a five-year old boy, I arranged to pick him up and head that way.
They have shoes, socks, underwear, jeans, pants, and tops arranged just
like a department store. There is a good variety (all tasteful, all
new) to choose from, and the children are encouraged to pick out things
that they like. They have dressing areas and a mirror so the kids can
try clothes on to make sure they find just the right outfit.
After they complete their apparel selections, their items are "sacked
up" and they proceed to the sticker and candy room for a short visit
with one of the CCC staff members. They have a basket of videos, and
the children are invited to pick out two to take with them.
Next a volunteer in the School Supply Room greeted each child, grabbed a
list of their needs according to grade level, and escorted them to a
HUGE MOUNTAIN OF BACKPACKS where the child made their selection. My
little guy picked out a Transformers backpack and was quite excited
about his choice -- who knows, maybe you donated that Transformers
backpack :-). They then proceeded around the room loading the backpack
with supplies, and ended at a rack of books where the child was invited
to select a book to take with them. I did not see a child in there who
was not smiling.
I was so very proud of the work OASFAA has done to accumulate those
backpacks and other items we make a game of competing to collect at our
conferences. It's surely not a game for these kids, and I just wanted
you to know I saw the happy results of OASFAA's efforts on behalf of
CCC, and I hope your great efforts will continue.
