I wanted to let everyone know the results of the recent election for the new OASFAA officers. President-Elect: David Barron Secretary: Becky Garrett Treasurer-Elect: Mendy Schmerer Delegate-at-Large: Dustin Davidson As you may recall, Nancy Moats will be the President for the 09-10 year, and Tammy Higgins was supposed to be the Treasurer.... However, after the recent election occurred and before I could announce the results, Tammy notified the board that she was offered a director's position at Pittsburg State in Kansas, so she had to resign her position. (You can congratulate/harass her at thiggins at neo.edu.) According to the OASFAA By-Laws, when a vacancy like this occurs, the board may elect someone to fill the position until the next general election. We have asked Mendy Schmerer to take over the Treasurer position a year earlier than planned, and Teri Cochran will fill the Treasurer-Elect position. We appreciate both Mendy and Teri's willingness to step up to the plate and help us out. Therefore, the 09-10 OASFAA board is as follows: President: Nancy Moats President-Elect: David Barron Past President: Andrew Hammontree Secretary: Becky Garrett Treasurer: Mendy Schmerer Treasurer-Elect: Teri Cochran Delegate-at-Large: Carol Stanfield Delegate-at-Large: Dustin Davidson Congratulations to everyone! The two changes are: * Delaying implementation of the second income limit from 2010-11 to 2012-13. The second income limit requires that the student's family income may not exceed $100,000 (total taxable and nontaxable income) at the time the student starts college. * Restricting the Oklahoma's Promise award amount at state system four-year institutions to the nonguaranteed tuition rate. This provision will apply to all students entering college after July 1. We use the 8-semester transcript, and many have been received but there are still transcripts arriving every day. I know you are anxious to see if your students are eligibile. Please know that we are working as quickly as we can to get this information available to you. In the past, the first Eligibility List was not available until July 1st because of the technology we were using. However, with the new technology this year we are able to post the eligible students to the electronic list as soon as the transcript is evaluated and loaded into the system. I've listed a few notes below that should be helpful. 1. There are two lists currently available: a. 2008-09 Eligibility - use for determining summer 2009 eligibility (2009 HS grads are NOT eligible for summer term tuition) b. 2009-10 Eligibility - use for determining eligibility beginning fall 2009. The 2009 HS grads will be included in this listing as soon as and if they are determined eligible. Please note the expiration date on the older students for your records. Some of these students' eligibility may expire as soon as 12/31/09. c. The Potential Eligibility (2009 seniors) has been taken down to avoid confusion. The students who are eligible will gradually show up on the 2009-10 Eligibility List. 2. If you have a student who says that he has received his award letter sometime this summer, you should be able to find him on the eligibility list. (If you cannot, there is a possibility that there is a problem with his SSN.) 3. If the result of the search comes back with "Eligible, no expiration date, Last Name" - this student is eligible, we just don't have an expiration date recorded yet. This will show up after a disbursement is made. 4. A student showing up as Not Eligible, at this point, could mean that they have not been processed yet. As we get further into the summer a Not Eligible will indicate a non-qualifier. Feel free to refer students to the FAQ for HS Seniors on our website at www.okpromise.org. It explains the evaluation process and should help them to understand. We also have a link on our homepage to a list of high schools who have submitted the final paperwork. Students can check this list to see if their high school is there or not. We appreciate your patience. Thank you! This is the bill we were waiting to have passed so we do NOT have count VA benefits as a resource in 09-10 aid packages. I'll keep you posted about the president signing the bill and if the text contains any surprises. The 2009 Pending Final Paperwork list contains 2009 high school grads whose final paperwork has not been processed yet. Simply put, the status of these students is pending. When the final paperwork has been processed, the student will be removed from this list. 1. This list contains ONLY 2009 HS grads and is only a partial list. 2. The students on this list are NOT eligible nor are they ineligible at this time. 3. If a student is not on this list, you should check the 2009-10 Eligibility List. 4. If a student is not on this list or the 09-10 Eligibility, you should assume the student is not eligible. 5. If the student has received an award letter this summer and is not on either list, there could be a problem with the SSN. They should call our office at this point to clarify. Please use caution when working with this 2009 Pending Final Paperwork list. I cannot stress enough that these students are not eligible until you find them on the 2009-10 Eligibility List. If you have any questions, please let me know. Carol Alexander OKPromise -----Original Message----- From: oasfaa-bounces at lists.onenet.net [mailto:oasfaa-bounces at lists.onenet.net]On Behalf Of Alexander, Carol Sent: Monday, June 22, 2009 2:34 PM To: OASFAA (E-mail) Subject: [Oasfaa] OKPromise Eligibility Lists As most of you know, the Oklahoma's Promise office is in the process of evaluating transcripts for the 2009 HS graduating OKPromise students. Thank you!
