Please review the award criteria and submit nominations for each award to me as soon as you can. The recipients will be announced at the Spring conference. * Philo Brasher Emerging Leadership Award: This award was established by SWASFAA in honor of Philo Brasher who served many years in the association. The OASFAA Board of Directors selects a member, which is announced at the spring conference. The recipient should be an individual that has served OASFAA and made a contribution to the Association. OASFAA will pay the registration fee to the SWASFAA annual conference on behalf of the Oklahoma award winner. OASFAA will also match the $250 that SWASFAA donates to the general scholarship fund of the recipients' school. * Honorary Membership Award: Honorary Membership in OASFAA is the highest honor that the Association can bestow on a person who is neither a member nor affiliated with a member organization. Since this is the highest award that OASFAA can give, the individual receiving it must have made truly outstanding contributions to the Association and to the profession over a sustained period of time. It is not expected that honorary membership will be granted in recognition of a single accomplishment, but for continued efforts over a period of time. Honorary membership will be conferred only with the approval of the majority of the Board of Directors. Honorary members are extended the same membership privileges as Associate members. * Distinguished Service Award: This award is intended to recognize a practicing student financial aid professional at an institution. He/she should have contributed unique and long lasting efforts to the association, the profession, or the cause of financial aid in Oklahoma. In general, presentation of the awards will occur at the spring conference of the association. The following guidelines should be observed in selecting recipients of the award: 1. A solicitation for nominees for the award should be made to all members through a posting on the OASFAA website and through the listserv. 2. Nominations must be made by active members and must be supported by two other members of the association. 3. Only active members of the association are eligible for nomination. 4. The Advisory Committee shall evaluate nominations for the award and make a recommendation to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has the final decision regarding the selection of recipients. 5. No current member of the Advisory Committee or voting member of the Board of Directors is eligible for the award. Please e-mail your nominees for the Philo Brasher, Honorary Membership, and Distinguished Service Award, to me with the reasons you believe the person should be chosen to receive the award. Date: Sat, 09 Jan 2010 00:36:58 +0000 Subject: [Oasfaa] Winter in Oklahoma Message-ID: <7765A2CFAD69AB4EBF0BE2E39EE5247C05DBA6@it-monad.sooner.net.ou.edu> WINTER POEM It's winter in Oklahoma and the gentle breezes blow seventy miles an hour at thirty-five below. Oh, how I love Oklahoma when the snow's up to your butt. You take a breath of winter and your nose gets frozen shut. Yes, the weather here is wonderful. so I guess I'll hang around. I could never leave Oklahoma cuz I'm frozen to the ground! To quote Robin Williams on Mork & Mindy "it's colder than a witch's brass welldigger out there!" Notice the new title and physical address (same phone, same email, different fax). Anika Cole-Carr left us in August (she went to ATI in Oklahoma City) and I've moved to take her place in our office that handles non-traditional students (Advanced Programs & Liberal Studies). I came down here to 'cover' this area until we hired a new person and told everyone who asked "oh, no, I'd never do this permanently"......yeah right. There's not much foot traffic because most of our students are not physically here on campus, but our phones & email are busy busy. The parking area is right next to the building and there's a colony of feral cats close by that I see every day and help feed (no petting, but one named Rose talks to me). Good parking, kitties, closer to the basketball arena....what more could you want? This is part of a transition toward the big R (no, not dyed red hair, I've already got that.....I'm talking retirement). I'm gradually passing my compliance & other duties to others (mainly Caryn Pacheco). Jehan Parekh has been promoted to Associate Director for loans, which she richly deserves. And, I'm trying to make these 'square peg' non-traditional students fit into round holes in Banner. We've finished converting all the offices to Banner (the Bursar went over the winter break). Brad is still leading the Banner project, moving into Phase II....reports, modifications and support. And, yes, he still has the chickens and the egg business. I have committed to staying at least through 2010 so this area goes through a full year cycle in Banner; we need to get processes running smoothly and document them for whoever comes next. I don't know if I'll stay past that point, it will depend on whether I'm still enjoying myself. Shoot, I could win the lottery and be gone 1/1/2011....of course, I'd have to actually PLAY, wouldn't I? Hope all are enjoying the new year and staying warm!
