Oklahoma City University - Financial Aid Counselor
Position Summary:  Position is primarily responsible for awarding, counseling and verifying students through financial aid process. Employee is also responsible for working with the Deans from different colleges to administer their departmental scholarship awards and will be assigned to one or two schools as their primary focus.
Essential Functions:

 *   Review student's data as files become complete. Verify all documentation in student's application as outlined in the Student Federal Aid Handbook: the information on the Student Aid Report, the federal income tax return, the Student Data Form. Required to send correspondence to student if there are discrepancies or if additional information is needed.
 *   Package students as their applications become complete in accordance with state, federal, and institutional guidelines. Your main focus is undergraduate and graduate students, you may be required to assist with law students.
 *   Meet with prospective and returning students and their parents to discuss the financial aid processes and other programs; counsel students through the financial aid process and assist with completion of all required documents.
 *   Responsible for assisting with the administration of a specific college's scholarship allocation.
 *   Maintain current knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to student loans, verification and application processes, as well as other areas of financial aid.
 *   Attend recruitment events on behalf of the Financial Aid Office (Stars 101, PLUS program open houses, etc.)
 *   Responsible for processing emergency loans at the beginning of each term. Post scholarship awards to students' accounts that have been awarded through University policy and process, ensuring students meet criteria for each award.
 *   Work closely with the Enrollment Services, Student Accounts and Registrars in rectifying student issues and concerns.
 *   Assist with updating brochures, forms and procedures for the office as needed. Perform general office tasks such as, but not limited to, filing, working the front counter, sorting ISIR's and sorting and stuffing letters to mail.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferred. High school diploma with 1-2 years financial aid, student accounts experience required.   This position requires proven experience working with student's financial aid and overall student account. Candidate must have a working knowledge of student financial aid, processing aid and especially student loans.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

 *   Candidate must be able to function under stress, remaining calm and provide assurance to students and parents. Working knowledge of the Banner Financial Aid Management system is a plus.
 *   Excellent writing skills, and oral communication skills.
 *   Clear, correct and effective communication using the English language.
 *   Excellent problem solving abilities.
 *   General experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping.
 *   Typing and 10-key experience mandatory.
 *   Proven Customer Service skills.
 *   Ability to comprehend Financial Functions.
 *   Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office, with knowledge of the Banner system.
Physical Requirements:  Occasionally requires standing, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying and climbing, reaching both high and low. Frequently requires walking and balancing. Constantly requires sitting, repetitious finger and wrist movement, speaking clearly, hearing conversations, hearing (with acuity), seeing near and far with depth perception and color vision. Candidate will be exposed to frequent noise caused by telephones and office machines. Must be able to work with difficult customers in a professional manner.
Hours: Standard hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. (Some overtime may be required during peak processing times)
           Summer hours are 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday and Fridays off.
