[Oasfaa] Bills Introduced for 2012 State Legislative Session

The 2012 Oklahoma legislative session convenes next Monday, February 6.
Following are some of the bills that have been introduced related to
state financial aid programs or tuition policy.

 

 

Oklahoma's Promise

 

*         SB 1380 (Sen. Ivester) - would allow a student to enroll in
Oklahoma's Promise if the student's parent died during the student's
11th or 12th grade year; bill text at:

*         HB 2679 (Rep. Banz) - for students enrolling in Oklahoma's
Promise in 2013-14 and thereafter, the award amount paid in college
would be based on a sliding scale depending upon the income of the
student's parents at the time the student begins college (100% of
tuition if income is less than $50,000; 90% of tuition if income is
$50-60,000; 80% of tuition if income is $60-70,000; 70% of tuition if
income is $70-80,000; 60% of tuition if income is $80-90,000; and 50% of
tuition if income is $90-100,000).  Bill text at:

*         HB 2780 (Rep. Russ) - a "shell" bill at this time related to
Oklahoma's Promise; the bill does not contain any substantive amendatory

*         HB 3112 (Rep. Hickman) - would prohibit the payment of an
OKPromise award for remedial courses beginning in 2013-14; bill text at:

Tuition Policy

 

*         SB 1062 (Sen. Wilson) - would require legislative approval of
changes to tuition and fees proposed by the State Regents for Higher

*         SB 1624 (Sen. Sparks) - would direct the Oklahoma State
Regents to adopt a policy allowing persons who were Oklahoma residents
at the time of high school graduation to eligible for in-state tuition;

*         SJR 79 (Sen. Sykes) - would authorize a state question to
amend the Oklahoma constitution to grant the Oklahoma Legislature the
exclusive authority to set tuition and fees in higher education; bill

*         HB 2593 (Rep. Holland) - would provide that the Oklahoma
Legislature establish tuition and fee amounts; bill text at

*         HB 2639 (Rep. Schwartz) - would eliminate the eligibility for
resident tuition for certain undocumented immigrant students; bill text

*         HB 2689 (Rep. Banz) - would make students who are dependents
of certain military personnel eligible for in-state residency status;
