Citizen's Caring for Children provides help and resources to foster children in the Oklahoma City area. One of their programs that is very special to our community is their mentoring program. Foster children are given a mentor through CCC. Because adult role models can change frequently in the lives of foster children, the Citizens Caring for Children Mentor Program is dedicated to matching foster children with a mentor who provides a positive, stable relationship. In order to help defray the cost to the mentors we have once again decided to collect gift cards. The gift cards we are asking each of you to donate are cards for places of entertainment (i.e. restaurants, movies, sporting events, shopping sprees, museums, etc.). Think about things you would like to do with your loved ones and donate gift cards for those activities. We are hoping for a really big turn out on the gift cards since this will be our last year supporting this charity on an annual basis. The board has voted to extend our support to other agencies and beginning next year the Local Arrangements Committee will select the charity we will support each year. Thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing you the third week in April! Registration will close at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Wednesday, April 3. The training will be on Friday, April 5th at the Northeast Campus of Tulsa Community College. We have two sessions planned for the day. The morning session will be a in depth look at various income based repayment options available to student borrowers. While income based repayment has been available for many years there have been significant changes and additions to the programs in recent years. The afternoon session will focus on bridging the communication gap between generations. We all communicate on a daily basis with individuals that have various ways of communicating. Frequently, these differences are amplified when there is an age difference between the two parties. We will work to identify and overcome some of those differences. We will begin at 10:00 AM and finish by 3:00 PM. Lunch is provided. There is no charge for OASFAA members. There is a $10.00 per person fee for non-members. TCC's Northeast Campus is 3727 East Apache Street, Tulsa, OK, 74115. A map can be found here. We will be in the Small Auditorium (Room 1603) located on the first floor of the Student Union. Registration will close at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Wednesday, April 3. You may register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2013SupportStaffTraining. Please let me know if you have any questions. In-Reply-To: <643059697.2251040.1367241330715.JavaMail.root@okbu.edu> Message-ID: <407369387.2254165.1367241659913.JavaMail.root@okbu.edu> Okay! I'm not one to complain... (ok, stop laughing!) but they've changed the TEACH amount again!. So, now that we've been disbursing at the reduced amount of 12.6% of elig amount ($3496 for most students at our school) we have to go back and give them a new amount of only 7.1% reduced amount of original ($3716 for most of our students.) Students are going to think we have lost our minds! Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful for the additional funds (except that it's still a reduction from the $4000 they were getting) but come on, let's get it right and quit messing with the awards and creating havoc for these kids who are trying to figure out if they can afford to go to school. I won't even mention the additional work for our offices. Well, I guess I did mention it, but that's not the main problem. Okay, rant over. Now, everyone get back to work and let's get those TEACH grants recalculated and revised awards sent out. :-) (Don't forget to send them out for 2013-14 as well if you're awarding for next year!) The Iraq-Afghanistan Service Grant percentage also changed from only a 10% reduction instead of the previously announced 37.8%, so while you're at it, make those changes as well. Have a great Monday everyone! Jonna -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
